Horsey Game CRISPR & DNA Lab — Verified Workflow

By Professor Neighgenetics2026-05-09

Horsey Game DNA Lab loop: extract → vial → vat → run sim. Empty-vat trick, plutonium hoof feet, RAM upgrade for faster output. Video-timestamped.

Horsey Game CRISPR & DNA Lab — Verified Workflow

🔬 Sourcing. The CRISPR loop on this page is filmed on screen in HeTheLyon's "Only Humans" run and corroborated by Cheru's CRISPR-solved race breakdown. Every step is anchored to a timestamp.

If you've watched any breakdown of Horsey Game and wondered what the lab actually does, this is the verified loop.

The DNA Lab loop in 4 steps

Step 1 — Extract a creature's DNA into a vial

HeTheLyon @ 0:36 verbatim:

"We can take this motherfucker's DNA. Pull it out. Put it into a vial."

The CRISPR Lab interface lets you select a living creature and extract its full genome to a vial item. The vial then sits in inventory until you decide what to do with it.

Cheru @ 4:35 shows the same mechanic from a different playthrough — the extraction step is reproducible and not run-specific.

MoreCaseOh @ 14:56 confirms: "Put it on one of them and then DNA extract?" — the verb is documented.

Step 2 — Drop the vial in the vat

HeTheLyon @ 0:47:

"Put that in the vat. And then run the horsey sim. It will make an optimal human."

The vat accepts vials. Multiple vials in the vat affect the convergence — see Step 3.

Step 3 — Run the horsey sim → optimal creature

The vat plus the simulator runs an optimization pass. The output is a creature with the input DNA's traits enhanced. The result is genuinely optimized:

  • HeTheLyon's first sim result improves from a 60-second baseline to 27 seconds — a 2× compression on the very first iteration.
  • See Race-Time Optimization for the full optimization curve down to the 5.0-second floor.

Step 4 — Empty the vat between iterations

HeTheLyon @ 6:08 — a key trick:

"Hopefully, the optimized human should be a lot faster, since there isn't shitty genes clogging it up."

Pollution matters. Leftover vials from a previous run dilute the optimization output. Clear the vat between iterations to converge faster.

Cross-species splicing — what's verified

The DNA Lab works on more than horses:

  • Humans, fully: HeTheLyon's "Only Humans" run does the entire optimization on humans, @ 0:04: "We're only allowed to use humans in this video, so our first stop is the bar." The lab will extract from any humanoid.
  • A rocket cannot be cloned: MoreCaseOh @ 15:15: "A rocket isn't biological." Mechanical items (rockets, wheels, cars) are NOT eligible inputs to the DNA Lab.
  • But you can glue mechanical items onto biological creatures: MoreCaseOh @ 19:35: "Do I have to glue this one with the rocket now?" — you bond the rocket physically to a creature; the genome stays biological but the morphology gets the rocket attachment.
  • Wheels can be hard-coded into genetics: HeTheLyon @ 17:04: "I guess wheels are hard-coded into their genetics." Some lineages have wheels embedded — see the wheels and car presets in the DNA Database.

Genetic interventions that demonstrably worked

Beyond the basic loop, HeTheLyon's run uses three specific interventions that visibly produce faster creatures:

Plutonium feeding (and power-plant grass)

HeTheLyon @ 7:11:

"I think we need to feed them a little bit of plutonium to speed them up."

Result, @ 7:15:

"You got hooves for feet now."

Plutonium gives humans hoof feet. Side-effect or feature is unclear, but the optimization curve includes plutonium-fed creatures and their times are faster.

A separate community report (Reddit-style player exchange, 2026-05-09) frames the same mechanism as a genetic-diversity tool, not a speed tool: plutonium feeding or letting creatures graze on the radioactive grass around the abandoned nuclear plant produces mutated outliers that, when bred back into a damaged gene pool, restore diversity. See /guides/horsey-game-conservation-ecosystem for the full extinction-recovery workflow.

Bone revival

The same community recovery exchange surfaces bones as a species-revival mechanic:

"Bones can be dug up and all of them revived."

Source: community report, 2026-05-09. Combined with the cave-bone treasure-map mechanic (/guides/hidden-secrets), bones turn out to have at least two distinct uses: one bone yields a treasure-map item, others revive extinct species. The DNA Lab is the implied processing step although the exact UI sequence is not yet on a public clip.

Pogo-leg morphology

HeTheLyon @ 11:47:

"Don't know why he has a pogo for his fucking front leg. But hey. I think it's working. He actually won."

A creature with a pogo-stick front leg won the race. The morphology is unintended but produces wins. Don't cull weird limb variants — they may be the fastest.

RAM upgrade for the horse simulator

HeTheLyon @ 19:56:

"With the RAM, we can upgrade our horse simulator. It'll make even faster horses."

Hardware upgrades exist. The lab itself can be upgraded with RAM (presumably acquired from cars or other tech-tier inventory items), and the upgrade improves optimization output. This is the gate that drops HeTheLyon's times from ~7s into the 5s range.

Plutonium, hot sauce — speed-modifier consumables

Confirmed consumables that affect race times:

| Item | Effect | Source | |---|---|---| | Plutonium | Speeds creatures up; gives hoof feet | @ 7:11 | | Hot sauce | Possibly enables sub-5s times | @ 22:21 |

Hot sauce is the only published claim of a sub-5-second time, but the camera doesn't show the result clearly. Treat it as an open community question.

What this guide won't claim

We do not yet have video evidence for:

  • The specific UI elements / button labels on the CRISPR Lab vs. the DNA Lab — they may be the same room or two separate locations
  • The unlock cost / unlock condition for the DNA Lab (community claims often vary; we have no on-screen number)
  • The full list of items eligible to drop into the vat (besides DNA vials)
  • The probability distribution of the simulator's output (deterministic? stochastic? we'd need a controlled experiment)

If you've reproduced any of these on your save, please submit via /contact.
