Hidden Secrets — Cave Bones, Water Rope, Trophy NPCs

Cave bones → treasure map ($5,000), water rope → fishing, trophy NPC payouts, top-left DNA bottle, the nuclear-plant DNA Lab unlock.

Hidden Secrets — Cave Bones, Water Rope, Trophy NPCs, the Top-Left DNA Bottle

🔬 How we sourced this guide. Every secret below originates from a player comment under 老番茄's Bilibili playthrough (7.3M views, 2026-05-09 comment thread). The commenter explicitly notes "probably more" — meaning this list is provisional. We've reproduced exactly the items they listed, in their language, and added our own verification status to each. Most Horsey Game guides obsess over breeding and racing. The map is full of side content nobody talks about. This is a running ledger of the hidden interactions the community has surfaced, with verification notes.

The cave with three bones — payout confirmed at $5,000

Somewhere on the map there's a cave containing three fossil bones. The mechanic and reward are now both video-verified:

林永季 @ 0:26 — "The first fossil bone scanned yields a treasure map that gives 5000 coins when dug up."

So the chain is: scan a fossil bone → get treasure map item → dig at the marked location → $5,000.

What we know:

  • Cave exists, three bones inside ✅
  • The first bone yields a treasure map (which bone counts as "first" is unclear — likely the one closest to the entrance, but unconfirmed)
  • Map dig payout is $5,000 cash

What we don't:

  • Whether the other two bones yield different treasure maps or are decoys
  • The exact map location of the cave
  • Whether you can repeat the chain on multiple saves / playthroughs

Bones have a SECOND use — species revival

A separate community report (Reddit-style player exchange, 2026-05-09) on island-extinction recovery clarifies that bones aren't only for the treasure-map chain:

"Bones can be dug up and all of them revived."

Bones found across the map can be processed in the DNA Lab to revive extinct species. This is the documented recovery path when your conservation map suffers a mass-extinction event (see /guides/horsey-game-conservation-ecosystem for the full workflow combining bone revival with plutonium-induced mutation).

So the cave with three bones likely contains:

  • 1 bone → DNA Lab → treasure-map item ($5,000 from dig)
  • 2 other bones → DNA Lab → revived extinct species (not yet identified per-bone)

Old Bu's farm — the rabbit-ear champion quest

A separate hidden quest path: a farmer named Old Bu (老番茄 @ 7:58) has useless horses but offers $2,000 for a horse that has rabbit ears AND has won a championship.

This requires:

  1. A breeding line with the rabbit-ear phenotype (splice rabbit DNA — see the DNA Database rabbit preset)
  2. The same horse winning at least one championship race
  3. Bringing it back to Old Bu for the payout

老番茄 @ 11:21 confirms the $2,000 payout when conditions are met. Distinct from Bubba's quest in /guides/horsey-game-26-achievements — that one needs descendant lineage, this one needs rabbit-ear phenotype.

The abandoned nuclear power plant

老番茄 @ 12:13:

"The abandoned nuclear power plant can be reactivated by placing a horse that can run on a wheel."

This is the DNA Lab unlock gate. The lab itself (老番茄 @ 7:45) is sitting unusable on the edge of town — no power. Reactivating the plant by running a wheel-capable horse on it is what powers the lab and lets you start CRISPR.

For the full opening chain that builds toward this moment, see /guides/opening-speedrun.

The water rope = fishing

"Use a rope in water → catches fish."

Most players carry rope for dragging unconscious horse-owners (see Opening Speedrun Step 3). Less obvious: drop the rope into a body of water and you fish. The reward isn't documented, but in a game where every interaction yields tradable assets, the fish almost certainly sell at the marketplace.

Implication: keep at least one rope in your inventory at all times. It's worth one beer — $10 for an unlocked side-economy.

Trophies → cash from a specific NPC

"Give trophies to a certain NPC → they pay cash."

Race winnings often come bundled with a physical trophy item. Most players ignore them. The commenter says one specific NPC — they don't say which — buys trophies for cash.

Implication: don't sell trophies to the generic shopkeeper. Try gifting them to every named NPC you encounter until one of them rewards you.

If you identify the trophy-buying NPC, please report.

The DNA bottle in the top-left corner

"Top-left corner of the map has a DNA bottle."

A free DNA sample, presumably tied to a specific genome. Useful as a splice ingredient if it's a unique creature not otherwise available. Worth a 30-second drive.

We don't yet know which genome the bottle decants — it could be a common species (cow, dog) or something rare.

How to actually find these

The cave, the water, the trophy-buying NPC, and the DNA bottle are all explorable map features. None require a quest trigger. To surface them:

  1. Drive the perimeter of the map in a fresh save. Note every landmark — caves, water bodies, isolated buildings, suspicious NPCs.
  2. Try each interaction once. Drop a rope in water. Hand a trophy to every NPC. Extract DNA from every bone or rock-like object you encounter. Most won't do anything; the ones that do will become your daily side-income.
  3. Save scum is allowed. None of the secrets penalise wrong attempts; the worst case is wasted clicks.

What we'd like to verify next

The commenter who supplied this list ended with "probably more" (可能还有). Suspected additional secrets we haven't confirmed:

  • A second hidden DNA source — the commenter implies the top-left bottle isn't the only one
  • An NPC who trades horses 1-for-1 instead of cash (hinted by the trophy-NPC pattern)
  • A nuclear-power-plant secondary unlock past the DNA Lab (hinted by 老番茄 not exploring the entire facility on camera)
  • Weather-triggered map events (hinted by no commenter explicitly mentioning weather, which would be unusual for a game this dense)

Any of these reproduceable on your save? Tell us — we'll add credit and a screenshot.

What's next

  • Opening Speedrun — once you have the cave/rope/trophy income loops running, the DNA Lab is right around the corner
  • DNA Database — splice the top-left bottle's DNA into one of the 18 community presets and see what comes out
  • Player Discoveries — 30 r/HorseyGame top posts, including some that may already feature these secrets in their build photos
