Horsey Game Betting & Odds — How the Track Actually Calculates Payouts

By Professor Neigheconomy2026-05-09

Horsey Game odds: 1:5 default, 1:2 trophy bump, $5→$130 win+place combo, VIP $25 min, Champion Race $250→$2,500. Bilibili-sourced timestamps.

Horsey Game Betting & Odds — How the Track Actually Calculates Payouts

🔬 Sourcing. Every number on this page is anchored to a Bilibili or YouTube playthrough timestamp. Two videos in particular drive this guide: 老番茄's 这是什么马?? (BV1BM9fB8Eds, 7.3M views) and 逍遥散人's 爆笑赛马 (BV1CNduBKEfc). Both creators read odds and prize numbers off-screen frequently, which is why the betting subsystem is unusually well-documented even before any save-file extraction.

The Horsey Game betting system is the part of the campaign that fastest-tracks the campaign cure of $62,375 — if you read the odds correctly. Most playthroughs lose money in the first hour because they bet on flat 1:5 odds; the experienced playthroughs find the favourable pockets and parlay them. Here's the full mechanic with sources.

The race format

Every race has 4 horses (逍遥散人 @ 0:34 — "the player can bet on one of four horses in a race"). You bet before the race; whichever horse you backed wins or doesn't.

老番茄 @ 0:36-0:41 shows a sample lineup of four horses with names like "许愿星", "没死欧洲姐们", "你要啦", "不要啦" — silly names are the Horsey Game default.

The default 1:5 odds for unknown horses

When a horse has no race history, the track gives a flat 1:5 payout ratio (老番茄 @ 0:52). That means:

  • Bet $10 → win $50 if your horse comes first (老番茄 @ 0:54)
  • Bet $5 → win $25 if your horse comes first
  • Lose your bet otherwise (no consolation payout for 2nd place on a single bet)

A 1:5 ratio is already favourable from a pure-EV standpoint only if you have any signal about which horse is fast. With no signal, expected value of a single bet is roughly (1/4 × 5) − 1 = +0.25 per dollar — which is bonkers if true, but in practice the track's hidden seeding makes raw 1/4 wins unrealistic.

The trophy rule — past winners get bumped to 1:2

Once a horse has won a previous race, a trophy icon appears next to its name and its odds drop to 1:2 (老番茄 @ 5:15). That means:

  • Bet $10 on a 1:2 trophy horse → win $20 if it places first
  • The track has internalised that this horse is faster than the no-history pool

Practical consequence: trophy horses are nearly always the safer bet, but the lower payout means you're betting for the win rate, not the payout multiplier. Use them when you need to grind cash up reliably; switch to no-trophy horses when you want a high-variance push.

Combo bets — Win + Place pays huge

This is where the campaign actually unlocks. 老番茄 @ 5:25:

"You can bet on both first and second place; a 5-dollar bet can win 130 dollars."

A $5 win + place combo pays out $130 if you correctly call the top two finishers in any order. That's a 26× multiplier — drastically more than any single-horse bet. The trade-off is you have to be right about both placings, not just one.

Practical takeaway: if you can even slightly read horse strength differences across the four runners, the combo bet is the highest-EV bet in the early game. A $50 bankroll betting $5 per race needs to win ~1 in 26 races to break even — entirely doable once you spot patterns.

Cure ladder: race entries → race wins → bets

| Source | Cost | Reward | Source | |---|---:|---:|---| | Enter your own horse | $25 | up to $500 prize | 老番茄 @ 3:46, Cheru @ 4:35 | | Single bet on no-history horse | $5–$10 stake | 5× | 老番茄 @ 0:54 | | Single bet on trophy horse | $5–$10 stake | 2× | 老番茄 @ 5:15 | | Win + place combo | $5+ stake | 26× | 老番茄 @ 5:25 | | Champion Race | $250 entry | $2,500 prize | 老番茄 @ 10:22 |

The Champion Race requires two prior championship wins (老番茄 @ 10:22) before you can enter — confirming the same rule Cheru reads off-screen in his playthrough.

The minimum-bet ladder (VIP mode)

Bilibili reveals a progression most YouTube playthroughs skipped over:

  1. Starting minimum: $5 per bet (逍遥散人 @ 0:08)
  2. VIP unlocks when you reach a high cash threshold (逍遥散人 @ 25:26)
  3. VIP minimum bet: $25 (逍遥散人 @ 25:26)
  4. VIP odds widen: 3:1, 5:1, 10:1, etc. (逍遥散人 @ 25:38; CaseOh translation @ 22:15)

Implication: VIP mode is the right bankroll endpoint. Your money compounds faster on VIP odds than on the early 1:5 grind. But the $25 floor means a single losing streak hurts more — keep at least 5–10× the minimum bet liquid before stepping in.

Cheru @ 26:50 corroborates the $100 elite-club tier, suggesting VIP itself has internal escalation. This may be the same ladder labelled differently.

Combo bets at scale

老番茄 @ 5:25 shows a $5 → $130 combo. Scaling that up linearly:

| Stake | Implied combo payout (~26×) | |---:|---:| | $5 | $130 | | $10 | $260 | | $25 | $650 | | $100 | $2,600 |

Caveat: the 26× ratio is from a single observed run. The track may use floating odds based on the actual horses entered, so this should be treated as a baseline — not a guarantee. Verify against your in-game odds display before betting.

What the videos don't tell us

These sub-mechanics are still open:

  • The exact formula linking horse history to displayed odds. We see 1:5 → 1:2 after a win, but not what additional wins do, or how losses affect odds.
  • The combo-bet payout formula at non-$5 stakes. Linear scaling is assumed but not confirmed.
  • The VIP unlock cash threshold. 逍遥散人 hits it without naming the number.
  • Whether Champion Race entry replaces or adds to the regular 4-horse format. Both videos show champions in a different UI; the structural difference is unclear.
  • Whether 4-horse pools are randomised per race or fixed by region/track.

Practical betting strategy — early game

Based on the verified mechanics:

  1. Open the betting menu before every race and look for trophy icons. Trophy horse + 1:2 = reliable grind, no trophies = use the combo.
  2. Use combo bets when you can spot a likely top-two finish. Even at $5 stakes, a 26× hit is bigger than five trophy wins in a row.
  3. Avoid entering your own horse until you have at least three horses in stable, because the $25 entry fee is non-refundable and the prize tops at $500. Cheru @ 4:35 shows this loss vector explicitly.
  4. Save the bankroll for VIP. Don't spend on cosmetics or low-value items below the $5K mark — the moment VIP unlocks, your $/min jumps drastically.

Practical betting strategy — late game (post-VIP)

  1. Cap single-bet exposure at 10% of bankroll. A $25K bankroll → bet $2.5K. The 5:1 / 10:1 odds make this profitable on a single win.
  2. Champion Race is the final cash door: $250 entry → $2,500 prize is a clean 10×. If you have a horse with two prior cup wins, the EV beats most VIP bets.
  3. Don't enter horses with one championship. The two-cup rule is hard; you'll just burn the $250.
