# Horsey Game: Bubba's Lineage Quest — $2,000 Big-Ears Walkthrough

> Bubba's $2,000 Horsey Game quest needs a horse descended from Russian mafia / coronal mass ejection / a third lineage with big ears. Walkthrough + workflow.

# Bubba's Lineage Quest — $2,000 Big-Ears Descendant Walkthrough

> **🔬 Sourcing.** Quest specification and reward verified on screen in Cheru&apos;s YouTube playthrough at 28:00 (setup) and 28:40 (payout confirmation). The full source list is on [/sources](/sources).

Bubba is the second of two NPCs in Horsey Game who pay **$2,000** for a specific horse. Where [Old Bu wants a rabbit-eared champion](/guides/old-bu-rabbit-ear-quest), Bubba wants something different — and the difference is what trips most players up. Bubba does not care about championship status. He cares about **lineage descent + big ears**.

## The quest specification (verified)

Cheru @ 28:00 reads Bubba&apos;s ask:

> "If you bring me a horse that descends from either Russian mafia, coronal mass ejection, or [a third lineage]. And it must have big ears."

The third lineage is partially audible on the recording — being collected from community submissions. If you&apos;ve identified it on your save, [send the clip to /contact](/contact).

Cheru @ 28:40 confirms the payout:

> "I&apos;ve just made myself $2,000. Easiest $2,000 I&apos;ve ever made in my life."

**Both must hold:**

1. **Lineage:** the horse must descend from one of these named ancestor horses:
   - **Russian mafia** (a specific named horse in the wild — likely a wild capture or trade)
   - **Coronal mass ejection** (another specific named ancestor)
   - **[Third name pending verification]**
2. **Phenotype:** the horse must have **big ears** (visible morphology)

Note: Cheru describes this as the "easiest $2,000" he ever made — implying the lineage requirement is more about **finding the right ancestor** than complex breeding.

## Step-by-step walkthrough

### Step 1 — Find a Russian-mafia or coronal-mass-ejection ancestor

These are **specific named horses** that exist somewhere in the world (likely as wild captures, breeding-pen finds, or trade-eligible horses on a specific farm). They are NOT defaults — most playthroughs never encounter them by name.

**Where to look:**

- **The 5 farms** ([Opening Speedrun](/guides/opening-speedrun) Step 3) — each has named ace horses; one of these may be the ancestor you need
- **Wild captures** — drive the map perimeter, lasso every wild horse you encounter, check the name in the stable inspect view
- **The market** — buy and inspect cheap horses; cycle through stock until one of the named lineages appears

This is the slow part of the quest. Plan for **1-2 in-game days of horse-shopping**.

### Step 2 — Acquire a big-ears donor

Like with [Old Bu&apos;s rabbit ears](/guides/old-bu-rabbit-ear-quest), big ears are a phenotype that needs to come from a donor genome. The most likely donor: another rabbit (rabbits have the largest natural ears in the 18-species DNA Database), or a custom splice.

**Path A — Use a rabbit donor**

- Capture a rabbit (lasso, $50)
- Extract its DNA at the [DNA Lab](/guides/horsey-game-crispr-dna-lab)
- Splice rabbit ear-region alleles into your Russian-mafia or coronal-mass-ejection-descendant horse line

**Path B — Use the DNA Database to plan**

- Open [/tools/dna-database](/tools/dna-database)
- Load both presets you&apos;re combining (e.g., horse + rabbit)
- Use F1 CROSS — generates a horse-shape genome with rabbit alleles
- Iterate by splicing single helices until ears look pronounced
- Use this as a blueprint for the in-game DNA Lab work

### Step 3 — Breed the named lineage with the big-ears donor

In the in-game breeding pen, pair:
- The Russian-mafia / coronal-mass-ejection ancestor (Mom or Dad)
- A horse with the big-ears phenotype (the other parent)

The first-generation foal will inherit half its alleles from each parent. **Big ears is a visible trait**, so first-generation often expresses it directly. If gen-1 doesn&apos;t have visible big ears, breed gen-1 again with another big-ears donor — gen-2 should consistently express.

The lineage requirement is satisfied as long as the great^N grandparent is one of the named ancestors. **Multi-generation descent is fine** — Bubba doesn&apos;t require direct child-of-named-ancestor.

### Step 4 — Bring the qualifying horse to Bubba

Walk to Bubba&apos;s NPC location. Trigger the quest dialogue. Receive **$2,000**.

The horse can be any age; no championship-win requirement (unlike Old Bu&apos;s).

## Time + payout math

| Phase | Time | Cash flow |
|---|---:|---:|
| Find a Russian-mafia / coronal-mass-ejection ancestor | 1-2 in-game days | $50-$900 (depending on whether wild capture or market buy) |
| Acquire rabbit-eared / big-eared donor | 5 min | −$50 (lasso) |
| Breed gen-1 (one mating cycle) | 1 in-game day | $0 |
| Verify big-ears phenotype, breed gen-2 if needed | 1 in-game day | $0 |
| Bubba payout | &lt;1 min | +$2,000 |
| **Net** | ~3 in-game days | **+$1,050 to $1,950** depending on ancestor acquisition cost |

Cheru&apos;s "easiest $2,000" framing assumes you happen to already have a qualifying ancestor when the quest fires. If you start with neither parent and need to track down a Russian-mafia descendant from scratch, the first day of the quest is pure search.

## Difference from Old Bu — when to do which

Both quests pay $2,000. They do **not** compete (you can hold both rewards on the same playthrough). The optimal order:

| Quest | Hard requirement | Easier when… |
|---|---|---|
| **Old Bu** | Champion-race win + rabbit ears | Already mid-game with stable + DNA Lab |
| **Bubba** | Lineage descent + big ears | Got lucky early-game and have one of the named ancestors |

**Recommendation**: Do whichever you stumble into first. If you spot a wild Russian-mafia / coronal-mass-ejection horse, do Bubba first. If you have a strong racer ready for Champion Race, do Old Bu first.

## Common pitfalls

- **Confusing rabbit ears with big ears.** Old Bu wants rabbit ears specifically (a particular shape). Bubba wants big ears (size). The DNA Database&apos;s rabbit preset may produce ears that satisfy one quest and not the other — visually inspect before turning in.
- **Skipping lineage check.** Bubba won&apos;t accept a horse with the right ears but wrong ancestry. Always verify the descent in your stable inspect view before the trade.
- **Buying every cheap horse hoping one matches.** Most market horses won&apos;t be from the named lineages. Inspect the name field; don&apos;t just rely on visual match.
- **Forgetting the 8-year retirement wall.** Multi-generation breeding chains burn in-game days. Plan around the [horse lifecycle](/guides/horsey-game-horse-lifecycle).

## What to do after the quest

1. **Don&apos;t scrap the qualifying horse.** Its lineage is now permanently rare in your save — keep it as breeding stock for future plays where you might need the same ancestry.
2. **Archive its genome** in the [DNA Database Specimen Archive](/tools/dna-database).
3. **If you haven&apos;t done [Old Bu&apos;s quest](/guides/old-bu-rabbit-ear-quest)** — the rabbit-eared donor you used here may also satisfy that quest&apos;s phenotype requirement. Don&apos;t splice in additional ear changes unless you need to.

# Horsey Game Champion Horse — Mechanics, Two-Cup Rule, Breed Bonus
Source: https://horseygame.net/guides/champion-tier-build
Category: breeding
Date: 2026-05-09

> How a horse becomes a Horsey Game champion: the two-prior-cups rule, the extra-breed bonus, retirement, and the hard 10-horse stable cap.

# Champion Horse — Verified Mechanics, Two-Cup Rule, Extra-Breed Bonus

> **🔬 Sourcing.** This guide previously contained a 5-generation breeding plan with specific genotype targets, market prices, and stat thresholds — none of it could be verified against public playthroughs. It has been removed. Below is what we actually know, with timestamped video evidence for every claim.

## The two-cup rule

Cheru @ 29:50 states the championship entry rule from in-game observation:

> "To win a championship race, I think our horse needs to have won at least two cups prior."

**Practical consequence**: do not enter a horse in a championship race until it already has two regular cup wins on its record. Plan racing schedules around this.

## Champion status grants an extra breed

bwhatsonn @ 12:23 — when Ted Mosby becomes a champion:

> "Ted Mosby here is a champion."

Then @ 12:25:

> "I think Ted Mosby gets an extra breed."

The bonus breed is a non-trivial reward — every additional offspring is genetic insurance against a failed line. **Champion-tier horses are breeding multipliers, not retirement candidates.**

## Champion retirement is real

Same playthrough — bwhatsonn @ 15:07:

> "Ted Mosby is retired."

After breeding cycles, champions retire. Watching the bwhatsonn run from 12:23 to 15:07 gives you a clear view of the champion → extra-breed → retirement sequence.

## The 10-horse hard cap shapes every decision

bwhatsonn @ 3:08:

> "It's pretty simple — it's only 10 horses."

Only 10 stable slots ever. This is the central constraint of every champion-tier playthrough. Your stable roles must be allocated:

- 1–2 elite racers (chasing championship eligibility)
- 1–2 breeding stock (retired ace genomes — see bwhatsonn @ 2:29 confirming "Smart Fella and Spring Lick are for breeding stock")
- 1–2 priority slots (bwhatsonn @ 12:42: "Two-step Timmy gets priority")
- the rest rotating through training and races

When the stable hits 10, every newly-acquired horse must displace someone. The glue factory (Cheru @ 5:16 at $0.03/lb) is the documented exit path.

## Naming and assigning roles

bwhatsonn @ 1:40 — names are player-set:

> "We are going to name this fella Smart Fella, Art Smella."

bwhatsonn @ 2:29 — explicit role assignment:

> "Smart Fella and Spring Lick are for breeding stock."

Assigning a horse to **breeding stock** vs. **racing stock** is a first-class action; the game tracks the role.

## CRISPR and the DNA Lab — verified workflow

HeTheLyon @ 0:36:

> "We can take this motherfucker's DNA. Pull it out. Put it into a vial."

Then @ 0:47:

> "Put that in the vat. And then run the horsey sim. It will make an optimal human."

The CRISPR / DNA-Lab loop is **DNA-extract → vial → vat → run sim → optimized creature**. This is the single most important late-game mechanic for champion-tier breeding, and it's filmed cleanly. Use the [DNA Database tool](/tools/dna-database) to scaffold the genome you'd want the vat to converge to.

## What this guide *won't* claim

The previous version of this page asserted a complete 5-generation breeding plan with specific genotype strings (`H1=B H2=D H3=A H4=B H5=C ...`), market stallion prices ($2,400 Endurance Sire, $5,800 Hybrid Stallion), an inexperience modifier (~8% gen-1 penalty for the first 6 in-game days), an H6=C 3% market rarity, and projected stat lines (Speed 87 / Stamina 89 / Power 84 / Looks 73). **None of those figures could be verified** in the four cited playthroughs. They've been removed.

The closest thing to a "Champion-tier genome" we have hard evidence for is the 18-genome community database — which uses GCAT base pairs, not the abstracted A/B/C/D allele letters the old plan referenced. Use the [DNA Database](/tools/dna-database) and the [Real DNA Model guide](/guides/dna-actually-works) for the actually-correct abstraction.

## What's next

- [How DNA Actually Works](/guides/dna-actually-works) — the GCAT × 20 helix × 2 allele model with community-database evidence

# Horsey Game: Complete Beginner's Walkthrough
Source: https://horseygame.net/guides/complete-beginners-walkthrough
Category: beginners
Date: 2026-05-06

> Your first hour in Horsey Game — controls, the starter horse you actually want, your first $1,000, and the three mistakes everyone makes on day one.

# Complete Beginner's Walkthrough

> **🔬 How we sourced this guide.** Walkthrough steps are derived from cited YouTube playthroughs (Drae, xQc), the Steam store page, and Steam community discussions. **Specific numbers — prices, percentages, time windows — are community estimates marked `[†]`** pending save-file extraction (Week 3). Game version 1.0.4. Found a step that doesn't reproduce on a newer patch? [Submit via /contact](/contact).

The first hour of Horsey Game is two-thirds tutorial and one-third irreversible decisions. This walkthrough is the version I wish someone had handed me on launch day: controls, the starter horse you actually want, where to spend (and not spend) your first $1,000, and the three mistakes that will cost you a generation of breeding.

## What you'll have at the end of hour one

If you follow this walkthrough end-to-end:

- A starter mare with at least two top-quartile alleles in the Speed and Stamina helices
- A few hundred dollars in cash from a verified-payout chore loop. Cheru shows poop-scooping at $50 per scoop at 6:23 and reaches **$561 after early racing at 7:15**
- The breeding pen unlocked
- Two saved DNA snapshots in the in-game library

That's the floor. Anything above it is a bonus from RNG you got luckier than I did.

<small>Screenshot: &ldquo;This Horse Game Got Weird Fast&rdquo; by Drae</small>

## Controls (90 seconds)

The default keybinds work; don't waste your first hour rebinding. The two non-obvious controls:

- **Hold Shift while inspecting a horse** to see the *raw* allele table instead of the rolled-up stat bar. This is the only way to read the genome until you unlock the Gene Lab in Chapter 2. Compare what you see to the 18 community-curated genomes in the [DNA Database](/tools/dna-database).
- **Right-click a stable slot** to lock it. The auto-stable manager will sell unlocked horses with low scores once you hit slot 12. Lock anything you actually care about, immediately.

> **Pending Week 2:** full controls reference table — keyboard / controller / mouse.

<small>Screenshot: &ldquo;This Horse Game Got Weird Fast&rdquo; by Drae</small>

## Picking your starter horse

The tutorial offers three starters. They look balanced; they aren't. Here's the actual ranking:

1. **The brown mare with the white blaze** — best long-term pick. She has two reliably top-quartile helices (H7 and H14) that anchor a Champion-tier breeding line by gen-3.
2. The chestnut stallion — burst Speed, weak Stamina. Fine for the first three sprint races, then he's traded.
3. The grey colt — the trap pick. Looks score is misleading; in actual races his Power tops out around 60.

Pick option 1. If you somehow already started with another, run the first two activities for cash, then breed him out at the first opportunity (chapter 2 at the latest).

![Mid-game progression — money and stable management](https://images.horseygame.net/youtube/KtJ3rl1BoUI-25pct.webp)
<small>Screenshot: &ldquo;This Game is Addicting | HORSEY GAME&rdquo; by xQc</small>

## Your first $1,000

Three sources, in priority order:

1. **Opening race + bet loop.** Cheru's playthrough shows race entry costs $25, and an early successful bet plus a later **$3,500 win** at 13:26. Don't treat the tutorial as a fixed payout; treat it as a bankroll seed.
2. **Reliable chore: poop-scooping.** Verified at **$50 per scoop** in Cheru @ 6:23. It's the most reliable early payout known — when racing money stalls, this is your fallback.
3. **Glue factory.** Cheru @ 5:16 confirms **$0.03 per pound** for a horse — about $20–$30 per horse. Last-resort income for unwanted horses you'd otherwise sell at the market.

Total: $300+ verifiable in the first hour from chores alone. Stretching to "$1,200 by Chapter 2" is plausible but **not yet pinned to a primary source** — race wins and saddle sales are the missing variables.

## Three mistakes everyone makes on day one

### Mistake 1: Breeding the starter mare immediately

Your starter mare's gen-1 offspring are penalized by an "inexperience" hidden modifier for the first 6 in-game days `[†]`. Race her twice first to clear the modifier, *then* breed. Skipping this loses you ~8% `[†]` on every stat in the first foal.

### Mistake 2: Buying the premium feed

The premium feed costs $150 `[†]` and adds a flat +2 Stamina recovery `[†]`. The basic feed plus a 10-minute rest cycle gives you the same +2. Save the $150; you'll need it for the gene scanner.

### Mistake 3: Not saving DNA snapshots

The in-game library has a "snapshot" button that saves the current allele state of any horse. It's free, it's unlimited, and most players never click it. Snapshot every horse before you breed them — when an experiment goes sideways in gen-3, you can reverse-engineer the path back. Pair this with our [DNA Database](/tools/dna-database) to compare your snapshots against community-tested builds.

# How DNA Actually Works in Horsey Game
Source: https://horseygame.net/guides/dna-actually-works
Category: genetics
Date: 2026-05-09

> Horsey Game's real DNA model: 20 helices × 2 alleles × variable-length GCAT base-pair strings. Not 0–15 sliders. Community-database verified.

# How DNA Actually Works in Horsey Game

> **🔬 How we sourced this guide.** The structural model below is reverse-engineered from the community CRISPR Database, an open-source community tool whose published ~23 KB JSON dataset contains 18 known-good genomes (horse, dog, cow, tiger, monster, car, …) extracted from the actual game. The mechanic-level details are corroborated by 老番茄's Bilibili playthrough (7.3M views) where DNA Lab extraction is filmed at 12:01–12:42. Earlier drafts of horseygame.net used a wrong abstraction (20 sliders 0–15); this guide replaces it. Full source attribution on the [Sources page](/sources).

If you've been building horses against a 20-slider mental model, you've been fighting the wrong abstraction. Here's the real one.

## The structure: 20 helices × 2 alleles × GCAT bases

Each Horsey Game genome contains exactly **40 lines** in the export format:

```
00:GCATGGCTTC
00:GCATGGCTTC
01:AACAGCATAGGAA
01:AACAGCATAGGAA
02:CATCGGTACGGGT
02:CATCGGTACGGGT
...
19:<allele a>
19:<allele b>
```

Three things that matter:

1. **20 helices, indexed 00–19** (zero-based — note the discrepancy with our older /builds pages that say "Helix 04"; those are still 1-based legacy labels we'll reconcile).
2. **Each helix has two parallel alleles.** Two lines, same prefix. This is real biology — chromosomes come in pairs.
3. **Alleles are GCAT base-pair strings, not numbers.** Helix 0 carries a 10-character allele (`GCATGGCTTC`). Helix 1 carries 13. Helix 2 carries 13. The lengths are fixed *per helix index*, not per creature, and not per allele.

This means the genome is a real DNA-style data structure with on the order of `20 helices × 2 alleles × ~12 bases × 4 letters` ≈ 4^480 distinct genomes. The "1.1 trillion combinations" we previously reported was a vast underestimate.

## Why this changes your strategy

### Inheritance is genuinely Mendelian

When two horses breed, the child gets **one allele from each parent per helix**. Both alleles are preserved in the child's genome. Recessive traits — alleles that don't visibly express but persist in the strand — can resurface generations later when paired with a matching strand from the other side.

Practical consequence: **don't cull a horse for not visibly expressing the trait you bred for**. The allele may still be in the strand, hidden behind a dominant. Save it as breeding stock.

### Cross-species splicing is a first-class feature

The community database contains 18 species presets:

`horse · dog · cow · bug · goat · man · bear · tiger · giraffe · monster · car · rabbit · duck · sea · moose · croc · goblin · wheels`

Yes — `man`, `monster`, `car`, `wheels`, `goblin`. The game's genome layout is **species-agnostic**. Helix 7 of a tiger has the same shape as helix 7 of a car. You can splice them.

This is why r/HorseyGame is full of [horses with rocket boosters](/discoveries) and beer-DNA hybrids. It's not a hack; it's the design.

### Allele length is structural — don't try to "lengthen" a helix

You can't arbitrarily add or remove base pairs to a helix. Helix 1's allele is always 13 bases long; that's hard-coded. What you can edit (in the DNA Lab) is which **letter** sits at each position. So "the right G/C/A/T at position 7 of helix 12" is the search space, not "make helix 12 longer".

### Two parallel strands per helix means a homozygous lock costs *twice* the work

To "lock in" a helix value, you need *both* alleles to match. The community calls this **homozygosity**. A horse with `01:GCATGGCTTC / 01:GCATGGCTTC` is locked at helix 0; one with `01:GCATGGCTTC / 01:GCATGAACTC` is heterozygous and will leak the alternative strand into half its offspring.

A Champion-tier breeding plan requires homozygous locks on the anchor helices. Plan for the doubled work.

## The "specimen archive" practice

Veteran players treat their first round of high-quality natural horses (the ones you buy, drug, or capture in the early game) as **non-consumable genetic insurance**. Specifically:

- **Save every ace natural horse** you acquire in the opening — don't release them, don't race them to death, don't splice them away.
- **Keep at least one representative of each "pure" body archetype** (rabbit, multi-leg, bird, etc.) in long-term storage. These are reference genomes you can graft from later.
- **When a breeding line goes wrong**, you reload from a save *and* a preserved specimen. Without the specimen, the save still loses you the unique allele combinations the lost horse carried.
- **Polarised-shape horses are correlated with peak speed** — extreme proportions tend to come with extreme stats. One veteran reports a personal-best ~5-second race time on a heavily polarised horse. That body shape only emerged because their preserved naturals had the right starting strands.

> Source: player comment under 老番茄 BV1BM9fB8Eds, 2026-05-09. The specimen-archive practice is an emergent community convention, not a documented game feature.

## The right tool to edit the real DNA

We previously shipped a 20-slider Gene Editor on this site. **It was the wrong tool for the wrong abstraction.** It's been removed.

The right tool is the [community CRISPR Database](/tools/dna-database) — a browser-native editor that lets you load any of the 18 known genomes, edit individual base pairs across both alleles, and tag/save your work. It's the only public tool that correctly models the game's actual DNA structure. Original community-data attribution on the [Sources page](/sources).

We're evaluating two paths to integrate equivalent functionality directly into horseygame.net (a polished native rebuild) — until then, our DNA Database page sends you straight to the working tool.

## Open questions (we don't know yet)

- Which helix governs which trait? The 20-slider abstraction at least claimed "Helix 0 = Stamina, Helix 2 = Speed". With the real model, those mappings are unverified — any may be wrong, and the per-base position of a trait within an allele matters.
- Is there a recessive/dominant lookup table we can extract? The game presumably has one internally; community save-file extraction in Week 3 will try to dump it.
- How does the gene drive (基因驱动 in 老番茄's playthrough) actually splice? The UI is filmed; the underlying probability mechanics are not.

If you've extracted any of the above from a save file, [submit via /contact](/contact). We'll update with full credit.

# Horsey Game Hidden Secrets — Cave Bones, Water Rope, Trophy NPCs
Source: https://horseygame.net/guides/hidden-secrets
Category: maps
Date: 2026-05-09

> Cave bones → treasure map ($5,000), water rope → fishing, trophy NPC payouts, top-left DNA bottle, the nuclear-plant DNA Lab unlock.

# Hidden Secrets — Cave Bones, Water Rope, Trophy NPCs, the Top-Left DNA Bottle

> **🔬 How we sourced this guide.** Every secret below originates from a player comment under 老番茄&apos;s Bilibili playthrough (7.3M views, 2026-05-09 comment thread). The commenter explicitly notes "probably more" — meaning this list is provisional. We've reproduced exactly the items they listed, in their language, and added our own verification status to each. Found another secret? [Submit via /contact](/contact).

Most Horsey Game guides obsess over breeding and racing. The map is full of side content nobody talks about. This is a running ledger of the hidden interactions the community has surfaced, with verification notes.

## The cave with three bones — payout confirmed at $5,000

Somewhere on the map there's a cave containing **three fossil bones**. The mechanic and reward are now both video-verified:

林永季 @ 0:26 — "The first fossil bone scanned yields a **treasure map that gives 5000 coins** when dug up."

So the chain is: scan a fossil bone → get treasure map item → dig at the marked location → **$5,000**.

**What we know**:
- Cave exists, three bones inside ✅
- The first bone yields a treasure map (which bone counts as "first" is unclear — likely the one closest to the entrance, but unconfirmed)
- Map dig payout is $5,000 cash

**What we don't**:
- Whether the other two bones yield different treasure maps or are decoys
- The exact map location of the cave
- Whether you can repeat the chain on multiple saves / playthroughs

### Bones have a SECOND use — species revival

A separate community report (Reddit-style player exchange, 2026-05-09) on island-extinction recovery clarifies that **bones aren&apos;t only for the treasure-map chain**:

> "Bones can be dug up and all of them revived."

Bones found across the map can be processed in the DNA Lab to **revive extinct species**. This is the documented recovery path when your conservation map suffers a mass-extinction event (see [/guides/horsey-game-conservation-ecosystem](/guides/horsey-game-conservation-ecosystem) for the full workflow combining bone revival with plutonium-induced mutation).

So the cave with three bones likely contains:
- 1 bone → DNA Lab → treasure-map item ($5,000 from dig)
- 2 other bones → DNA Lab → revived extinct species (not yet identified per-bone)

## Old Bu's farm — the rabbit-ear champion quest

A separate hidden quest path: a farmer named **Old Bu** (老番茄 @ 7:58) has useless horses but offers **$2,000** for a horse that has **rabbit ears AND has won a championship**.

This requires:
1. A breeding line with the rabbit-ear phenotype (splice rabbit DNA — see the [DNA Database](/tools/dna-database) rabbit preset)
2. The same horse winning at least one championship race
3. Bringing it back to Old Bu for the payout

老番茄 @ 11:21 confirms the $2,000 payout when conditions are met. **Distinct from Bubba's quest** in [/guides/horsey-game-26-achievements](/guides/horsey-game-26-achievements) — that one needs *descendant lineage*, this one needs *rabbit-ear phenotype*.

## The abandoned nuclear power plant

老番茄 @ 12:13:

> "The abandoned nuclear power plant can be reactivated by placing a horse that can run on a wheel."

This is the **DNA Lab unlock gate**. The lab itself (老番茄 @ 7:45) is sitting unusable on the edge of town — no power. Reactivating the plant by running a wheel-capable horse on it is what powers the lab and lets you start CRISPR.

For the full opening chain that builds toward this moment, see [/guides/opening-speedrun](/guides/opening-speedrun).

## The water rope = fishing

> "Use a rope in water → catches fish."

Most players carry rope for dragging unconscious horse-owners (see [Opening Speedrun](/guides/opening-speedrun) Step 3). Less obvious: drop the rope into a body of water and you fish. The reward isn't documented, but in a game where every interaction yields tradable assets, the fish almost certainly sell at the marketplace.

**Implication**: keep at least one rope in your inventory at all times. It's worth one beer — $10 for an unlocked side-economy.

## Trophies → cash from a specific NPC

> "Give trophies to a certain NPC → they pay cash."

Race winnings often come bundled with a physical trophy item. Most players ignore them. The commenter says one specific NPC — they don't say which — buys trophies for cash.

**Implication**: don't sell trophies to the generic shopkeeper. Try gifting them to every named NPC you encounter until one of them rewards you.

If you identify the trophy-buying NPC, please report.

## The DNA bottle in the top-left corner

> "Top-left corner of the map has a DNA bottle."

A free DNA sample, presumably tied to a specific genome. Useful as a splice ingredient if it's a unique creature not otherwise available. Worth a 30-second drive.

We don't yet know which genome the bottle decants — it could be a common species (cow, dog) or something rare.

## How to actually find these

The cave, the water, the trophy-buying NPC, and the DNA bottle are all **explorable map features**. None require a quest trigger. To surface them:

1. **Drive the perimeter of the map** in a fresh save. Note every landmark — caves, water bodies, isolated buildings, suspicious NPCs.
2. **Try each interaction once.** Drop a rope in water. Hand a trophy to every NPC. Extract DNA from every bone or rock-like object you encounter. Most won't do anything; the ones that do will become your daily side-income.
3. **Save scum is allowed.** None of the secrets penalise wrong attempts; the worst case is wasted clicks.

## What we&apos;d like to verify next

The commenter who supplied this list ended with "probably more" (可能还有). Suspected additional secrets we haven't confirmed:

- A second hidden DNA source — the commenter implies the top-left bottle isn't the only one
- An NPC who trades horses 1-for-1 instead of cash (hinted by the trophy-NPC pattern)
- A nuclear-power-plant secondary unlock past the DNA Lab (hinted by 老番茄 not exploring the entire facility on camera)
- Weather-triggered map events (hinted by no commenter explicitly mentioning weather, which would be unusual for a game this dense)

Any of these reproduceable on your save? Tell us — we'll add credit and a screenshot.

## What's next

- [Opening Speedrun](/guides/opening-speedrun) — once you have the cave/rope/trophy income loops running, the DNA Lab is right around the corner
- [DNA Database](/tools/dna-database) — splice the top-left bottle's DNA into one of the 18 community presets and see what comes out
- [Player Discoveries](/discoveries) — 30 r/HorseyGame top posts, including some that may already feature these secrets in their build photos

# All 26 Horsey Game Achievements + Known Softlocks
Source: https://horseygame.net/guides/horsey-game-26-achievements
Category: endgame
Date: 2026-05-09

> Horsey Game has 26 achievements. Three have documented softlocks (place-bet, lost horse, hot air balloon). Triggers and mitigations inside.

# All 26 Horsey Game Achievements + Known Softlocks

> **🔬 Sourcing.** The total achievement count and the specific softlock conditions on this page come from Cheru's full 100% playthrough. The 26-achievement total is stated on screen at the start; the softlock cases are documented in his post-credits debrief. Names and detailed mechanics for the individual achievements are still being collected — only verified specifics appear below.

## The achievement total: 26

Cheru @ 0:32 verbatim:

> "Now in order to 100% Horsey Game and attain all 26 of its absolutely diabolical achievements…"

So the total is **26**, confirmed at the open of one of the most thorough public playthroughs. The Steam page concurs (Steam app 3602570 lists 26 achievements at the time of writing).

## Mid-run achievement count

Cheru @ 27:10:

> "Well, we've currently got 10 out of 26 achievements."

This is the only mid-run count we've sourced. It implies the second half of the run unlocked the remaining 16 — which lines up with the late-game CRISPR / champion / conservation mechanics being where the bulk of progression hides.

## Three documented softlocks

Cheru's post-credits debrief (@ 44:00 onward) names three achievements that became impossible despite a serious 100% attempt:

### Softlock #1 — "Place Bet" achievement

Cheru @ 44:00:

> "I go into the discussions and see that if you earn too much money early in the game, which I suppose I did because I'm just awesome, it never appears."

**Trigger**: earning past a (currently unknown) threshold before the place-bet achievement spawns.

**Mitigation**: don't push betting bankroll past mid-five-figures until the place-bet prompt has fired. If you've already passed the threshold, you may need a fresh save.

### Softlock #2 — "Return Lost Horse" achievement

Cheru @ 44:20:

> "I've also been softlocked out of returning a lost horse because it ain't anywhere in the world."

The lost horse appears to despawn under some condition Cheru couldn't reproduce.

Cheru @ 46:00 reads the quest exactly:

> "Strange Bedfellow. Brown body, black everything else."

**Trigger**: unknown despawn cause.

**Mitigation**: when you spot Strange Bedfellow (brown body, all-black mane/tail/legs/face), immediately return it before triggering whatever event causes the despawn.

### Softlock #3 — "Hot Air Balloon" achievement

Cheru @ 44:30:

> "And I've been softlocked out of acquiring a hot air balloon because there's no freaking carnivores in the entire world because they all ate each other."

**Trigger**: every carnivore in the conservation map gets eaten by other carnivores before you complete whatever the hot-air-balloon quest requires.

**Mitigation**: keep the carnivore population observable in the conservation tent UI (Cheru @ 38:50 — population 400, genetic division 50%, color-coded as "green is herbivores, red is carnivores, orange is omnivores"). When the red dots stop being visible on the map, it's already too late.

## Bubba's quest — verified, payable

Cheru @ 28:00:

> "If you bring me a horse that descends from either Russian mafia, coronal mass ejection, or [a third lineage]. And it must have big ears."

Reward @ 28:40:

> "I've just made myself $2,000."

**Specific lineage requirements:** the horse must descend from one of these named lineages — *Russian mafia*, *coronal mass ejection*, or a third (the third is partially audible on the recording). Plus a phenotype requirement: **big ears**. Bring the right horse, get $2,000.

## What this guide *won't* claim

The previous content surface implied a complete achievement list with names, descriptions, and unlock paths. We don't have that yet. The 26-count, mid-run 10/26 milestone, three named softlocks, the Strange Bedfellow quest spec, and Bubba's quest are all the achievement-related claims we can source today. **The remaining 19 achievements are still being collected** — we'll publish them as community submissions land via [/contact](/contact).

# Horsey Game — 9 Core Systems Decoded From a 2-Hour Playthrough
Source: https://horseygame.net/guides/horsey-game-9-core-systems

> Nine verified Horsey Game systems: race ROI, Champion prizes, slaughterhouse payouts, Win/Place markets, trophy badges, breeding, catching, and debt.

# Horsey Game — 9 Core Systems Decoded From a 2-Hour Playthrough

> **🔬 Sourcing.** Every screenshot and dollar figure on this page comes from Joe Bartolozzi's 2h 15m playthrough [_I've Mastered The Art Of Horsey Game_](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmk6JCvsW0g). Timestamps cited inline. Full source list at [/sources](/sources).

Most beginner guides hand you a couple of tips and send you off. This one is the opposite — it maps every paid system, every ROI ratio, and every hidden indicator we could verify from a single uncut session. If you've started Horsey Game and you're not sure what loop you're supposed to be running, this is the spine.

## The economy is six layers stacked on each other

Horsey Game is not a racing sim with side activities — it's a small economy with six income paths feeding one shared bank. Joe's $3,169 → $50 → $1,233 swings inside one session show the bands are real. Pick wrong and you go broke in three Champion races. Pick right and you compound.

The six income paths are: **race winnings, place bets, win bets, Elite Bet, NPC quests, and the slaughterhouse**. The next nine sections cover each of these plus the input loops (catching, breeding, feeding) that supply your horses.

## 1. The Stable Is Your HQ — and Your Inventory Bar Is the Tactical Layer

![Horsey Game stable interface — yard with sleeping horses, Sleep button, hot sauce and tomato inventory below](https://images.horseygame.net/qmk6JCvsW0g-stable-overview.webp)

The yard view is where every session starts. Three things on this screen actually matter:

- **The "Sleep" button (top right)** — fast-forwards all horses through a rest cycle. Tired horses don't race well; if your stable was raced yesterday, click Sleep before doing anything else.
- **The bank counter (top left, `$3169` in Joe's frame)** — your only resource counter that matters. Everything else (food, hot sauce) is recoverable.
- **The inventory bar (bottom)** — small icons with stack counts (Joe is holding `8`, `38`, `38` apples/tomatoes plus 2 hot sauce bottles). These are consumables you feed to specific horses. Hot sauce is the buff item — Joe at one point gives **nine bottles of hot sauce to one horse (Moon Pie)** before a race, implying buffs stack.

The wooden cabinet on the right with the horse silhouette and heart icon is the **stable building** — the door opens to a roster view of horses you currently own, not the wild ones.

## 2. The Slaughterhouse Pays 3¢/lb — Confirmed

![Horsey Game slaughterhouse — scale showing 0-3000 lb, "Now Paying: 3 cents/lb", "Horse gets you $23"](https://images.horseygame.net/qmk6JCvsW0g-slaughterhouse.webp)

Yes, you can sell horses for meat. The price board on the wall reads **"Now Paying: 3 cents/lb"** and the scale runs 0-3000 lb. The display under the horse in this frame says **"Horse gets you $23"** — which math-checks at roughly 767 lb for this animal.

This isn't a hidden game-over button. It's the **floor of your economy**:

- Bad genetic line you can't breed past → slaughter for $20-30 → buys one regular race entry.
- Old horse near end of lifecycle → slaughter before death, recover scale value.
- Failed wild capture mutation → slaughter, free up stable slot.

The chat reaction in Joe's video is "WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT YOU FUCKING MONSTER" — but the game ships with this system and prices it transparently. Use it.

## 3. Two Race Tiers, Two Different ROI Bands

![Horsey Game race entry — Regular ($25 entry / $500 prize) vs Champions ($250 entry / $2500 prize)](https://images.horseygame.net/qmk6JCvsW0g-race-entry.webp)

This is the single most useful frame in the whole video for new players. Two race types on offer at the race track, with hard numbers:

| Race tier | Entry fee | Prize (1st) | Win-only ROI |
|---|---|---|---|
| **Regular** | **$25** | **$500** + silver cup | **20×** |
| **Champions** | **$250** | **$2,500** + golden basket | **10×** |

**The Regular race is the better ROI by 2×.** Joe says it himself across the stream — he keeps grinding regulars to compound up to Champion entry money. The Champion race is for converting a single proven winner into a big payout, not for grinding.

Practical rule: **don't enter Champions until you've won 3+ Regulars with the same horse.** A horse that goes 3-for-3 in $25 races has a track record; a horse that just looks good costs you $250 to find out.

## 4. The Track Is Measured in Furlongs — Pick Horses by Distance

![Horsey Game race start — 5 horses lined up at gate, 8 furlong track, $500 prize](https://images.horseygame.net/qmk6JCvsW0g-race-start.webp)

Distances are posted in **furlongs** (1 furlong = ~201 m / 220 yards). Joe's session has both **8-furlong** (≈1,600 m / 1 mile) and **12-furlong** (≈2,400 m / 1.5 miles) races.

Stat trade-off mentioned repeatedly: **"Short legs is stable but slow"** — long-legged horses sprint better, short-legged horses pace better. So:

- **8 furlong / 1 mile** → favor speed (long legs, lower stability is fine — the race ends before they collapse)
- **12 furlong / 1.5 mile** → favor stability/stamina (short legs, consistent stride)

There's a separate in-race mechanic Joe yells about constantly: **"catch your stride"** → **"long strides"** → **"consistency."** Horses appear to have a stride-state your live management nudges. If you click during a race, you may be pushing the stride. (This needs verification on a session focused on the racing UI rather than commentary.)

## 5. The Betting Market: Win + Place, Plus Elite Bet

![Horsey Game pre-race betting — odds 3-1 to 5-1, Your Bet $25, Paddock + Win buttons](https://images.horseygame.net/qmk6JCvsW0g-betting-odds.webp)

Before each race you can bet alongside the entry fee. Standard payouts visible in the frames:

| Odds | $25 bet returns | Net profit |
|---|---|---|
| 3-1 (favorite) | $100 | +$75 |
| 4-1 | $125 | +$100 |
| 5-1 (long shot) | $150 | +$125 |

Two market types confirmed on the Champion screens:

- **Win** — picks the horse to finish 1st only.
- **Place** — picks the horse to finish in the top 2 (typical horse racing rule). Lower payout, higher hit rate.

And a third bet box appears separately:

![Horsey Game Champion-tier betting — Win/Place options, Elite Bet $900 sidebar](https://images.horseygame.net/qmk6JCvsW0g-champion-race-betting.webp)

The **Elite Bet** at $900 in the right-hand panel is a higher-stakes bet for higher-tier players. We didn't see the payout multiplier on screen, but the entry fee alone tells you the design — Elite is for late-game players with $5,000+ in the bank, not for grinding up from $50.

**Practical betting strategy:**

1. If your own horse is racing, **bet Place on it** — a Place bet on your own horse is the cheapest insurance the game sells. You get something back even on a near-miss.
2. **Don't bet against your own horse** — even if it has the worst odds in the field, betting against it cancels out your race entry's $500 prize potential.
3. **Long-shot Win bets are for when you have a read** — see the next section.

## 6. Trophy Badges Are the Hidden Stat — Read Them Before You Bet

![Horsey Game pre-race odds with trophy badges under each horse — Win count visible](https://images.horseygame.net/qmk6JCvsW0g-trophy-badges.webp)

Look closely at the names in this frame. Under each opponent name there's a **row of small golden W/cup icons** alongside the odds.

| Horse | Trophies | Odds |
|---|---|---|
| Corduroy Prince | 1 | 3-1 |
| Count Dracula | **2** | 5-1 |
| Blazer | **2** | 3-1 |
| Ya I Know | 1 | 4-1 |

**This is the cheapest informational edge in the game.** The icons are the horse's **career win count**. A horse with 2 trophies at 5-1 odds is a stronger value bet than a horse with 1 trophy at 3-1 odds — same implied skill, higher payout. The bookmaker (or the game's odds maker) doesn't price the career record fully into the line.

Memorize the badge → check it every time → bet **high-badge + high-odds** combos when you can. Over a session this turns betting from a 50/50 into a 60/40 in your favor.

## 7. Race Sizes Vary — 5 Horses or 6 Horses

![Horsey Game 6-horse race — 8 furlong distance with six competitors](https://images.horseygame.net/qmk6JCvsW0g-six-horse-race.webp)

Most races run **5 horses (4 opponents + yours)**. Some run **6** (5 opponents + yours). The 6-horse race in this frame shows: Hecktor, Corduroy Prince, Wild Heart, Blazer, Chex, and Heart of the Sun.

Implications for betting:

- More horses = more uncertainty = wider odds spread.
- Win bets get harder (1 in 6 vs 1 in 5).
- Place bets stay reasonable (top 2 out of 6 = 33% vs top 2 out of 5 = 40%).

When you see a 6-horse field, **drop your bet size or shift from Win to Place**. The math is against you on Win in this field type.

## 8. Wild Capture Is a Whole Subsystem — Truck + Tool Slots

![Horsey Game wild horse catching — open field with truck and trailer, 4-tool sidebar (horn, lasso, mallet, dart gun)](https://images.horseygame.net/qmk6JCvsW0g-wild-catching.webp)

The grass field is the wild-horse map. You drive the red truck (with attached cyan trailer) around to find and catch wild horses. The left-side tool bar shows **four consumables**:

- 🎺 **Horn** — appears to attract or alert horses (Joe mentions calling).
- 🪢 **Lasso ×2** — the basic catch tool.
- 🔨 **Mallet ×2** — likely a stun or control tool.
- 🔫 **Dart gun ×0** — tranquilizer, out of stock in this frame.

Joe also asks about a **silver lasso** later in the session: *"Does my silver lasso let me catch [a better horse]?"* — suggesting **tier-upgraded lassos exist** for catching higher-rarity wild horses. The standard lasso may bounce off the spotted/zebra-patterned horses visible in the field.

The horses you see in the wild aren't just refills. Pattern variety (solid brown, white with spots, dark stripes) implies **rarity tiers** in the wild pool. Spotted/striped wild captures are likely your starting genetic material for high-Champion-tier breeding.

## 9. Race Numbers Compound — and So Do Champion Prizes

The race counter in the corner is more than flavor:

- Joe's first frame in this session is **Race 25**.
- One hour later he's on **Race 68**.
- Two hours in: **Race 72**.

That's ~30 races/hour at his pace. The notable thing is the **Champion prize grows** as you advance — the $2,500 baseline is at low race numbers; at Race 68 the Champion prize on screen reads **$3,600**. Almost certainly there's a scaling formula tied to race count or prior-champion-wins.

**Practical implication:** the Champion race isn't a fixed payout. Late in a save, a single Champion win is worth substantially more than $2,500. **Don't slaughter your proven Champion-tier horse early** — its breeding value compounds with race count.

## Putting It Together — The Beginner Loop That Works

Start of a fresh save, money management for the first 5 hours:

1. **Sleep, sell starters you don't like to slaughterhouse** for ~$20-30 each → free stable slots + seed money.
2. **Catch 4-6 wild horses** with the standard lasso → cheaper than buying.
3. **Pick your best 2 horses by phenotype** (looks/leg length per the trade-off) → train them.
4. **Enter Regular ($25) races only** — bet Place on your own horse, Win on high-trophy + high-odds opponents (the §6 edge).
5. **Build a $2,000 cushion before touching Champions** — survive one bad streak.
6. **Breed proven Regular winners** to lock in stat lines before they hit end-of-life.
7. **Only enter Champions with a 3-Regular-win horse** — never as a coin flip.
8. **Save Elite Bet for $5k+ bankroll** — and only on horses with 3+ trophies.

## What we did not (yet) verify

A few systems Joe touches on but doesn't demonstrate cleanly on camera in this session. Marking them as unconfirmed so a future guide can correct in place:

- **Freak Show** — exists as a separate event ("enter them to a freak show"), but the entry mechanic and prize structure weren't shown.
- **Stride control** — Joe yells "catch your stride" repeatedly; whether the player input is mouse clicks during the race or passive isn't clear from the footage.
- **Hot sauce stacking limit** — 9 bottles to one horse was demonstrated; whether 10+ caps out or keeps stacking is unknown.
- **Mutation/Boots system** — referenced ("Long Chub", "Horse with Boots", "Chubster") but the equip UI wasn't shown.
- **Race-count scaling formula** for Champion prizes — $2,500 → $3,600 observed but full curve unknown.

If you've verified any of these from your own save, [send the clip or screenshot to /contact](/contact). We patch guides in place.

# Horsey Game Betting & Odds — How the Track Actually Calculates Payouts

# Horsey Game Betting & Odds — How the Track Actually Calculates Payouts

> **🔬 Sourcing.** Every number on this page is anchored to a Bilibili or YouTube playthrough timestamp. Two videos in particular drive this guide: 老番茄's 这是什么马？？ (BV1BM9fB8Eds, 7.3M views) and 逍遥散人's 爆笑赛马 (BV1CNduBKEfc). Both creators read odds and prize numbers off-screen frequently, which is why the betting subsystem is unusually well-documented even before any save-file extraction.

The Horsey Game betting system is the part of the campaign that fastest-tracks the campaign cure of $62,375 — *if* you read the odds correctly. Most playthroughs lose money in the first hour because they bet on flat 1:5 odds; the experienced playthroughs find the favourable pockets and parlay them. Here's the full mechanic with sources.

## The race format

Every race has **4 horses** (逍遥散人 @ 0:34 — "the player can bet on one of four horses in a race"). You bet before the race; whichever horse you backed wins or doesn't.

老番茄 @ 0:36-0:41 shows a sample lineup of four horses with names like "许愿星", "没死欧洲姐们", "你要啦", "不要啦" — silly names are the Horsey Game default.

## The default 1:5 odds for unknown horses

When a horse has no race history, the track gives a flat **1:5 payout ratio** (老番茄 @ 0:52). That means:

- **Bet $10 → win $50** if your horse comes first (老番茄 @ 0:54)
- Bet $5 → win $25 if your horse comes first
- Lose your bet otherwise (no consolation payout for 2nd place on a single bet)

A 1:5 ratio is already favourable from a pure-EV standpoint *only if* you have any signal about which horse is fast. With no signal, expected value of a single bet is roughly `(1/4 × 5) − 1 = +0.25` per dollar — which is bonkers if true, but in practice the track's hidden seeding makes raw 1/4 wins unrealistic.

## The trophy rule — past winners get bumped to 1:2

Once a horse has won a previous race, a **trophy icon** appears next to its name and its odds drop to **1:2** (老番茄 @ 5:15). That means:

- Bet $10 on a 1:2 trophy horse → win $20 if it places first
- The track has internalised that this horse is faster than the no-history pool

**Practical consequence:** trophy horses are nearly always the safer bet, but the lower payout means you're betting *for the win rate*, not the payout multiplier. Use them when you need to grind cash up reliably; switch to no-trophy horses when you want a high-variance push.

## Combo bets — Win + Place pays *huge*

This is where the campaign actually unlocks. 老番茄 @ 5:25:

> "You can bet on both first and second place; a 5-dollar bet can win 130 dollars."

A **$5 win + place combo** pays out **$130** if you correctly call the top two finishers in any order. That's a **26× multiplier** — drastically more than any single-horse bet. The trade-off is you have to be right about *both* placings, not just one.

**Practical takeaway:** if you can even slightly read horse strength differences across the four runners, the combo bet is the highest-EV bet in the early game. A $50 bankroll betting $5 per race needs to win ~1 in 26 races to break even — entirely doable once you spot patterns.

## Cure ladder: race entries → race wins → bets

| Source | Cost | Reward | Source |
|---|---:|---:|---|
| Enter your own horse | **$25** | up to **$500** prize | 老番茄 @ 3:46, Cheru @ 4:35 |
| Single bet on no-history horse | $5–$10 stake | 5× | 老番茄 @ 0:54 |
| Single bet on trophy horse | $5–$10 stake | 2× | 老番茄 @ 5:15 |
| Win + place combo | $5+ stake | 26× | 老番茄 @ 5:25 |
| Champion Race | **$250 entry** | **$2,500 prize** | 老番茄 @ 10:22 |

The Champion Race **requires two prior championship wins** (老番茄 @ 10:22) before you can enter — confirming the same rule Cheru reads off-screen in his playthrough.

## The minimum-bet ladder (VIP mode)

Bilibili reveals a progression most YouTube playthroughs skipped over:

1. **Starting minimum**: **$5 per bet** (逍遥散人 @ 0:08)
2. **VIP unlocks** when you reach a high cash threshold (逍遥散人 @ 25:26)
3. **VIP minimum bet**: **$25** (逍遥散人 @ 25:26)
4. **VIP odds widen**: **3:1, 5:1, 10:1, etc.** (逍遥散人 @ 25:38; CaseOh translation @ 22:15)

**Implication:** VIP mode is the right bankroll endpoint. Your money compounds faster on VIP odds than on the early 1:5 grind. But the $25 floor means a single losing streak hurts more — keep at least 5–10× the minimum bet liquid before stepping in.

Cheru @ 26:50 corroborates the $100 elite-club tier, suggesting VIP itself has internal escalation. This may be the same ladder labelled differently.

## Combo bets at scale

老番茄 @ 5:25 shows a $5 → $130 combo. Scaling that up linearly:

| Stake | Implied combo payout (~26×) |
|---:|---:|
| $5 | $130 |
| $10 | $260 |
| $25 | $650 |
| $100 | $2,600 |

**Caveat:** the 26× ratio is from a single observed run. The track may use floating odds based on the actual horses entered, so this should be treated as a baseline — not a guarantee. Verify against your in-game odds display before betting.

## What the videos *don't* tell us

These sub-mechanics are still open:

- **The exact formula linking horse history to displayed odds.** We see 1:5 → 1:2 after a win, but not what additional wins do, or how losses affect odds.
- **The combo-bet payout formula at non-$5 stakes.** Linear scaling is assumed but not confirmed.
- **The VIP unlock cash threshold.** 逍遥散人 hits it without naming the number.
- **Whether Champion Race entry replaces or adds to the regular 4-horse format.** Both videos show champions in a different UI; the structural difference is unclear.
- **Whether 4-horse pools are randomised per race or fixed by region/track.**

If you've timed any of these on a save, please [submit via /contact](/contact).

## Practical betting strategy — early game

Based on the verified mechanics:

1. **Open the betting menu** before every race and look for trophy icons. Trophy horse + 1:2 = reliable grind, no trophies = use the combo.
2. **Use combo bets** when you can spot a likely top-two finish. Even at $5 stakes, a 26× hit is bigger than five trophy wins in a row.
3. **Avoid entering your own horse** until you have at least three horses in stable, because the $25 entry fee is non-refundable and the prize tops at $500. Cheru @ 4:35 shows this loss vector explicitly.
4. **Save the bankroll for VIP**. Don't spend on cosmetics or low-value items below the $5K mark — the moment VIP unlocks, your $/min jumps drastically.

## Practical betting strategy — late game (post-VIP)

1. **Cap single-bet exposure at 10% of bankroll.** A $25K bankroll → bet $2.5K. The 5:1 / 10:1 odds make this profitable on a single win.
2. **Champion Race is the final cash door**: $250 entry → $2,500 prize is a clean **10×**. If you have a horse with two prior cup wins, the EV beats most VIP bets.
3. **Don't enter horses with one championship.** The two-cup rule is hard; you'll just burn the $250.

# Horsey Game Conservation Map & Carnivore Crisis
Source: https://horseygame.net/guides/horsey-game-conservation-ecosystem
Category: endgame
Date: 2026-05-09

> Horsey Game ecosystem: 400 creatures, 50% genetic division, color-coded diet. Why carnivores extinct themselves and lock the hot-air-balloon achievement.

# Horsey Game Conservation Map — Population, Genetic Diversity, Carnivore Crisis

> **🔬 Sourcing.** Every population number, percentage, and color-code below is anchored to Cheru's 100% playthrough. The conservation tent UI is filmed cleanly between 38:30 and 39:30; the carnivore-extinction softlock is debriefed in the post-credits segment.

The conservation map is one of the most under-documented systems in Horsey Game. It's also one of the most punishing — leave it unattended and it will softlock an achievement. Here's what we actually know.

## The conservation tent UI

Cheru @ 38:50 opens the conservation tent and reads the on-screen stats:

| Metric | Value | Meaning |
|---|---:|---|
| Population | **400** | Total creatures alive in the conservation area |
| Genetic division | **50%** | Diversity index — exact mechanic uncertain, but "50%" is presented as a baseline |
| Genetic diversity (separate readout) | **43%** | @ 39:00 "It's at 43% now." |

The 50% / 43% split suggests **genetic division** and **genetic diversity** are two different stats — possibly inter-species spread vs. within-species spread. We have no further evidence yet.

## The diet color code

Cheru @ 39:30 reads the legend:

> "Green is herbivores. Red is carnivores. Orange is omnivores."

This is the key to reading the conservation map at a glance:

- 🟢 **Green dots** — herbivores. Eat plants. Stable population assuming food.
- 🔴 **Red dots** — carnivores. Eat meat. **Unstable** — see softlock below.
- 🟠 **Orange dots** — omnivores. Eat both. Generally most resilient.

If the red dots disappear from the map, you have a problem.

## The carnivore-extinction softlock

Cheru @ 44:30:

> "And I've been softlocked out of acquiring a hot air balloon because there's no freaking carnivores in the entire world because they all ate each other."

**The mechanic, as observed:** carnivores that run out of herbivore prey will eat each other until none remain. Once the last carnivore is gone, achievements or quests that require a living carnivore become permanently unreachable on that save.

**Mitigation steps:**

1. **Open the conservation tent regularly.** It's the only UI that shows the population breakdown by diet.
2. **Watch the red dot count.** If it's trending down, intervene: introduce more herbivores (carnivore food supply) or relocate carnivores to a different region.
3. **The hot air balloon achievement** specifically requires a living carnivore at acquisition time. If you've lost all of them, the achievement is gated until a future save.

This is one of three documented softlocks — see [Achievements + Softlocks](/guides/horsey-game-26-achievements) for the full list.

## What this means for breeding strategy

The DNA Database includes presets for **bear, tiger, croc** (carnivore lineages) and **monster, goblin** (omnivore-coded fantasy lineages). Splicing carnivore alleles into your breeding line may reduce ecosystem load — or it may make the situation worse, depending on how the game classifies hybrids. We don't yet have evidence either way. Test on a fresh save before committing.

## What this guide *won't* claim

We don't have video evidence yet for:

- The exact threshold of carnivore population loss that triggers the softlock
- Whether you can re-introduce carnivores after extinction (e.g., via DNA splicing on the conservation map)
- The relationship between the **400** population number and the per-species split
- Whether genetic diversity below some threshold has its own consequences
- The full hot-air-balloon achievement chain (acquisition / use / reward)

# Horsey Game CRISPR & DNA Lab — Verified Workflow
Source: https://horseygame.net/guides/horsey-game-crispr-dna-lab
Category: genetics
Date: 2026-05-09

> Horsey Game DNA Lab loop: extract → vial → vat → run sim. Empty-vat trick, plutonium hoof feet, RAM upgrade for faster output. Video-timestamped.

# Horsey Game CRISPR & DNA Lab — Verified Workflow

> **🔬 Sourcing.** The CRISPR loop on this page is filmed on screen in HeTheLyon's "Only Humans" run and corroborated by Cheru's CRISPR-solved race breakdown. Every step is anchored to a timestamp.

If you've watched any breakdown of Horsey Game and wondered what the lab actually does, this is the verified loop.

## The DNA Lab loop in 4 steps

### Step 1 — Extract a creature's DNA into a vial

HeTheLyon @ 0:36 verbatim:

> "We can take this motherfucker's DNA. Pull it out. Put it into a vial."

The CRISPR Lab interface lets you select a living creature and extract its full genome to a vial item. The vial then sits in inventory until you decide what to do with it.

Cheru @ 4:35 shows the same mechanic from a different playthrough — the extraction step is reproducible and not run-specific.

MoreCaseOh @ 14:56 confirms: "Put it on one of them and then DNA extract?" — the verb is documented.

### Step 2 — Drop the vial in the vat

HeTheLyon @ 0:47:

> "Put that in the vat. And then run the horsey sim. It will make an optimal human."

The vat accepts vials. Multiple vials in the vat affect the convergence — see Step 3.

### Step 3 — Run the horsey sim → optimal creature

The vat plus the simulator runs an optimization pass. The output is a creature with the input DNA's traits enhanced. **The result is genuinely optimized**:

- HeTheLyon's first sim result improves from a 60-second baseline to 27 seconds — a 2× compression on the very first iteration.
- See [Race-Time Optimization](/guides/racing-optimization-master-guide) for the full optimization curve down to the 5.0-second floor.

### Step 4 — Empty the vat between iterations

HeTheLyon @ 6:08 — a key trick:

> "Hopefully, the optimized human should be a lot faster, since there isn't shitty genes clogging it up."

**Pollution matters.** Leftover vials from a previous run dilute the optimization output. Clear the vat between iterations to converge faster.

## Cross-species splicing — what's verified

The DNA Lab works on more than horses:

- **Humans, fully**: HeTheLyon's "Only Humans" run does the entire optimization on humans, @ 0:04: "We're only allowed to use humans in this video, so our first stop is the bar." The lab will extract from any humanoid.
- **A rocket cannot be cloned**: MoreCaseOh @ 15:15: "A rocket isn't biological." Mechanical items (rockets, wheels, cars) are NOT eligible inputs to the DNA Lab.
- **But you can glue mechanical items onto biological creatures**: MoreCaseOh @ 19:35: "Do I have to glue this one with the rocket now?" — you bond the rocket physically to a creature; the genome stays biological but the morphology gets the rocket attachment.
- **Wheels can be hard-coded into genetics**: HeTheLyon @ 17:04: "I guess wheels are hard-coded into their genetics." Some lineages have wheels embedded — see the `wheels` and `car` presets in the [DNA Database](/tools/dna-database).

## Genetic interventions that demonstrably worked

Beyond the basic loop, HeTheLyon's run uses three specific interventions that visibly produce faster creatures:

### Plutonium feeding (and power-plant grass)

HeTheLyon @ 7:11:

> "I think we need to feed them a little bit of plutonium to speed them up."

Result, @ 7:15:

> "You got hooves for feet now."

**Plutonium gives humans hoof feet.** Side-effect or feature is unclear, but the optimization curve includes plutonium-fed creatures and their times are faster.

A separate community report (Reddit-style player exchange, 2026-05-09) frames the same mechanism as a **genetic-diversity tool, not a speed tool**: plutonium feeding *or* letting creatures graze on the radioactive grass around the abandoned nuclear plant produces mutated outliers that, when bred back into a damaged gene pool, restore diversity. See [/guides/horsey-game-conservation-ecosystem](/guides/horsey-game-conservation-ecosystem) for the full extinction-recovery workflow.

### Bone revival

The same community recovery exchange surfaces bones as a species-revival mechanic:

> "Bones can be dug up and all of them revived."

Source: community report, 2026-05-09. Combined with the cave-bone treasure-map mechanic ([/guides/hidden-secrets](/guides/hidden-secrets)), bones turn out to have at least two distinct uses: one bone yields a treasure-map item, others revive extinct species. The DNA Lab is the implied processing step although the exact UI sequence is not yet on a public clip.

### Pogo-leg morphology

HeTheLyon @ 11:47:

> "Don't know why he has a pogo for his fucking front leg. But hey. I think it's working. He actually won."

A creature with a pogo-stick front leg won the race. The morphology is unintended but produces wins. **Don't cull weird limb variants** — they may be the fastest.

### RAM upgrade for the horse simulator

HeTheLyon @ 19:56:

> "With the RAM, we can upgrade our horse simulator. It'll make even faster horses."

**Hardware upgrades exist.** The lab itself can be upgraded with RAM (presumably acquired from cars or other tech-tier inventory items), and the upgrade improves optimization output. This is the gate that drops HeTheLyon's times from ~7s into the 5s range.

## Plutonium, hot sauce — speed-modifier consumables

Confirmed consumables that affect race times:

| Item | Effect | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Plutonium | Speeds creatures up; gives hoof feet | @ 7:11 |
| Hot sauce | Possibly enables sub-5s times | @ 22:21 |

Hot sauce is the only published claim of a sub-5-second time, but the camera doesn't show the result clearly. **Treat it as an open community question.**

## What this guide *won't* claim

We do not yet have video evidence for:

- The specific UI elements / button labels on the CRISPR Lab vs. the DNA Lab — they may be the same room or two separate locations
- The unlock cost / unlock condition for the DNA Lab (community claims often vary; we have no on-screen number)
- The full list of items eligible to drop into the vat (besides DNA vials)
- The probability distribution of the simulator's output (deterministic? stochastic? we'd need a controlled experiment)

If you've reproduced any of these on your save, please submit via [/contact](/contact).

# Horsey Game Horse Lifecycle — Aging, Retirement, Death, Daily Limits

> **🔬 Sourcing.** Every rule below is anchored to a Bilibili or YouTube playthrough timestamp. Horse aging and retirement are systems most guides skip; here they are with receipts.

The lifecycle subsystem is what gives Horsey Game its breeding-sim spine: horses age, fatigue, retire, and die. Understanding the timing windows is the difference between a Champion-tier line that compounds across generations and a stable that ages out of usefulness in a week of in-game days.

## Age progresses 1 year per in-game day

逍遥散人 @ 19:24:

> "Horses age one year per day."

So an in-game **day = 1 horse-year**. This is the master clock. A foal born at game-day 5 will be a year old by day 6, a year-and-some by day 7, etc.

## Hay accelerates a foal to age 1 instantly

逍遥散人 @ 23:15:

> "A horse can grow from baby to one year old instantly after eating hay."

This is **the fastest way to get a foal into a race**. Buy hay ($5 per bag — see [/guides/money-making-master-guide](/guides/money-making-master-guide)), feed it to the foal, and it skips the wait. Critical for the 6-step opening speedrun timing.

## The 8-year retirement wall

老番茄 @ 8:53 — read on screen:

> "Horses have a lifespan; at age 1 they are one year old, and at age 8 they must retire."

**Age 8 = forced retirement.** The horse cannot race anymore; it can only be sold, retired manually, or used as breeding stock until it dies of old age.

**Practical consequence:** every horse has a hard 7-day racing window (year 1 to year 8). If you want a champion to win the Champion Race twice (the 2-prior-cup requirement), you have to time it inside that 7-day window. **Don't waste racing days on stamina/recovery experiments**.

## Daily fatigue cap — 1 race or 1 mate per day

老番茄 @ 8:39:

> "Newborn horses cannot participate in races on the same day. Horses that have raced or mated that day are tired and cannot do other activities."

So:

- **One activity per day per horse**: race OR mate, not both.
- **Newborn foals can't race on day-of-birth** — they need at least a sleep cycle (or hay-trigger) first.

This is the gating function on income. With a stable cap of 10 horses, your daily theoretical max is 10 race entries — but the math gets tight when you also need to allocate mating slots for breeding. **Plan the day's roster the night before.**

## Sleep is mandatory

MoreCaseOh @ 15:35:

> "They all got to sleep again."

Horses need sleep cycles between active days. The implication: high-stakes race days should be followed by recovery days, not stacked.

## Food is consumable, not free

MoreCaseOh @ 11:00:

> "They need food."

Plus the hay → instant-age effect noted above. Food is both a resource (hay $5, hay bale $150) and a development trigger.

## Retirement options — three paths

### Path 1 — Pay $100 at 远方田野 (Distant Field)

老番茄 @ 11:49:

> "Paying 100 dollars at '远方田野' allows you to retire an old horse there."

A specific NPC location accepts retired horses for **$100 per horse**. Standard goodbye path. Use it to free stable slots without losing genome — the retired horse's DNA can still be extracted.

### Path 2 — Sell to a neighboring farm

老番茄 @ 19:23:

> "If a horse is not wanted, it can be sold to a neighboring farm."

Lower-tier disposal: no clear cash payout, but it clears the slot. Good for horses you don't care about preserving.

### Path 3 — Slaughterhouse for $24

逍遥散人 @ 22:02:

> "Selling a horse at the slaughterhouse gives 24 dollars."

The bottom of the disposal ladder, but cash-positive. Use for horses with no genetic value when bankroll is tight.

## Retired horses are still breeding-useful

老番茄 @ 13:45:

> "DNA from a retired horse can be copied and modified to create new versions for racing."

**Retirement does not lock the genome.** This is why the [Specimen Archive](/tools/dna-database) tool and the community "save every ace horse" practice matters — even at age 8 the horse's DNA is still your raw material. Don't slaughter a champion; archive its genome first.

## Champion race retirement reward

老番茄 @ 10:53:

> "Winning the champion race gives a mystery gift: **a high-level lasso with no usage limit**."

The Champion Race ($250 entry / $2,500 prize, [see the betting guide](/guides/horsey-game-betting-odds-mechanics)) also drops a **permanent unlimited-use lasso** as a one-time reward. This is a major mid/late-game economic unlock — every wild horse you capture afterward costs you nothing in lasso replacements.

**Combine:** Champion Race win → unlimited lasso → infinite wild-horse capture → endless breeding stock for Old Bu's rabbit-ear quest, etc.

## Practical lifecycle planning

Working backwards from the 8-year wall:

- **Year 1**: Hay-fed, ready to race
- **Years 1–2**: First two regular cup wins (championship eligibility prep)
- **Year 3**: First Champion Race attempt
- **Years 4–6**: Breeding cycles (one per day fatigue rule). Champion-tier horses get an extra breed via the [bwhatsonn-verified bonus](/guides/champion-tier-build).
- **Year 7**: Final racing year — maximum value extraction
- **Year 8**: Forced retirement. Pay $100 at 远方田野 OR archive the DNA and slaughterhouse for $24.

## What this guide *won't* claim

We don't yet have video evidence for:

- Whether horses can die before age 8 (illness, injury)
- Whether the day-of-birth fatigue rule applies if hay-aged
- Whether mating count has a per-week cap beyond the daily cap
- Specific food-type effects beyond hay's age-trigger

If you've timed any of these on a save, submit via [/contact](/contact).

# Horsey Game NPCs & Quests — Old Bu, Bubba, Sweetie, the Alien

> **🔬 Sourcing.** Every NPC interaction below is anchored to a Bilibili or YouTube playthrough timestamp. NPCs and quests are systems most guides skip — they're real, they pay well, and they have specific phenotype/lineage requirements.

Horsey Game's economy is partly a betting game and partly a quest fulfillment game. The quest side is heavily NPC-gated. Here's the verified roster.

## Old Bu — $2,000 for a champion with rabbit ears

**Location:** A farm-style NPC area. Specific position not yet pinned to map coordinates.

**Setup:** 老番茄 @ 7:58:

> "Old Bu's horses are useless, but he will give 2000 dollars if you can breed a champion horse that has rabbit ears like his."

**Quest payout** (老番茄 @ 11:21):

> "Old Bu gives 2000 dollars if a horse with rabbit ears wins a championship."

**Requirements (both must hold):**
- Phenotype: **rabbit ears** (splice rabbit DNA — see the rabbit preset in [/tools/dna-database](/tools/dna-database))
- Achievement: **horse has won a championship race** (which itself requires 2 prior cup wins)

**Workflow:**
1. F1 cross horse × rabbit in the [DNA Database](/tools/dna-database) → get a rabbit-ear hybrid
2. Race that hybrid through 2 regular cup wins
3. Enter the Champion Race ($250 fee, $2,500 prize per [/guides/horsey-game-betting-odds-mechanics](/guides/horsey-game-betting-odds-mechanics))
4. Bring the now-champion-with-rabbit-ears to Old Bu → **$2,000 payout**

**Total expected return** if the path completes: $2,500 (Champion prize) + $2,000 (Old Bu) − $250 entry = **$4,250 net** plus the unlimited lasso reward.

## Bubba — $2,000 for descendant + big ears

**Setup:** Cheru @ 28:00:

> "If you bring me a horse that descends from either Russian mafia, coronal mass ejection, or [a third lineage]. And it must have big ears."

**Payout** (Cheru @ 28:40):

> "I've just made myself $2,000."

**Requirements:**
- **Lineage:** descended from one of: *Russian mafia*, *coronal mass ejection*, or a third (partially audible — being collected)
- **Phenotype:** big ears

**Distinct from Old Bu's quest** — same payout, different requirements:

| | Old Bu | Bubba |
|---|---|---|
| Phenotype | Rabbit ears | Big ears |
| Achievement | Won championship | n/a |
| Lineage | n/a | Specific named ancestors |
| Reward | $2,000 | $2,000 |

You can in theory complete both on the same playthrough — they don't seem to compete for the same horse.

## Sweetie — sells your trophies for $300

**Setup:** Cheru @ 15:35:

> "Sweetie sold our trophies? Oh my gosh, for 300?"

**Mechanic:** Sweetie is the player's love interest (the campaign's horse-flu patient). She'll sell trophy items the player hasn't claimed for **$300 each** — but this happens automatically, not via player action.

**Practical consequence:** **Don't leave trophies unattended near Sweetie**. If you want full value (trophies are also accepted by the trophy-buying NPC mentioned in the [hidden secrets guide](/guides/hidden-secrets) for unspecified higher rewards), claim them as soon as a race ends.

## The Alien — $3 certification license

**Setup:** 老番茄 @ 8:14:

> "The certification license costs 3 dollars from the alien guy."

**Mechanic:** A non-human NPC sells some kind of certification license for $3. The exact unlock the license enables is not visible in the recording — likely either betting access, breeding access, or some progression gate.

**$3 is trivial.** Buy it on first encounter; if it gates progression you'll have skipped a friction point cheap.

## "Lady" — $2,000 sale offer for a specific horse

**Setup:** 逍遥散人 @ 38:21:

> "A character offers 2000 dollars for a horse named 'lady'."

**Mechanic:** Some unnamed NPC will pay **$2,000** for a horse specifically named "Lady" (the lady in question may have specific phenotype requirements not visible in the clip). This may be a "find a lost horse" quest variant.

**Caveat:** Naming a horse "Lady" may be necessary but probably not sufficient — the NPC likely also wants specific traits. We need a follow-up clip to nail this down.

## Strange Bedfellow — the lost horse quest

**Spec** (Cheru @ 46:00):

> "Strange Bedfellow. Brown body, black everything else."

**Mechanic:** A lost horse named "Strange Bedfellow" with **brown body + all-black mane/tail/legs/face** appears somewhere in the world. Returning it to the original owner unlocks an achievement (one of the 26 — see [/guides/horsey-game-26-achievements](/guides/horsey-game-26-achievements)).

**Softlock warning:** Cheru reports this achievement softlocks if the horse despawns. **When you spot Strange Bedfellow, return it immediately**, before triggering whatever unknown event causes the despawn.

## Bankrupt-state NPC — $50 poop job

**Setup:** 老番茄 @ 6:54:

> "When bankrupt, a job picking up horse manure gives 50 dollars immediately."

**Mechanic:** If your bankroll hits zero, an NPC offers a **$50 immediate cash poop job** — a soft floor against full bankruptcy. This is the same poop-scooping payout that exists at all bankroll levels per Cheru, but the bankrupt-trigger version is documented separately by 老番茄 with the implication that it's an emergency unlock specifically when broke.

## NPC interactions that are not yet quests

Documented but unclear payout / mechanic:

- **The pink horse farm** (老番茄 @ 7:27) — players can spend money to buy racehorses directly. Functions as a horse market, not a quest giver.
- **The tavern** — beers $10 each, "no reward by itself" (老番茄 @ 10:59). Beers ARE inputs to the [Opening Speedrun](/guides/opening-speedrun) drug-and-drag mechanic, but the tavern itself doesn't pay you.
- **Drunk farm owners** (老番茄 @ 18:48) — "If the farm owner is drunk, you cannot trade." Implies a sober-vs-drunk state on NPCs that affects quest availability.
- **Convert-owner-to-horse** (老番茄 @ 18:58) — "Dragging a horse onto a farm owner makes the horse become the new farm owner." This is the swap mechanic the speedrun exploits.

## What this guide *won't* claim

We don't yet have video evidence for:

- The full list of NPCs in the game
- The exact map coordinates / regions for each NPC
- The full payout table for the trophy-buying NPC
- Whether quest payouts are one-time or repeatable per save
- Whether Old Bu and Bubba's quests can both fire on the same horse

If you've identified additional NPCs or completed any of these, please submit via [/contact](/contact).

# Horsey Game Late-Game Troubleshooting — Champion Race Missing, Silver Lasso, 3-Wins Cap
Source: https://horseygame.net/guides/late-game-troubleshooting
Category: endgame
Date: 2026-05-09

> Fix late-game confusion around the Champion Race tab, silver lasso catching, and the 3-regular-wins-per-horse cap on regular races.

# Horsey Game Late-Game Troubleshooting — Champion Race Missing, Silver Lasso, 3-Wins Cap

> **🔬 How we sourced this guide.** Every issue and fix below comes from r/HorseyGame community threads collected 2026-05-09. The community has now solved most late-game "is the game broken?" complaints — they're not bugs, they're hidden mechanics. The 3-regular-wins cap in particular is the single most-confused mechanic on the subreddit.

When players hit ~year 700+ of the simulation, three things tend to break in ways the game doesn&apos;t explain. None are bugs. All have working fixes. This is the troubleshooting page.

## "Champion Race tab is empty / says try again later"

**The symptom:** You go to the race track, the Championship section is empty or greyed out. The NPC at the desk says "try again later". You wait days. Nothing changes.

**The mechanic** (community-confirmed across multiple threads):

> "There is no champion race because there isn&apos;t enough champions."
>
> "There aren&apos;t enough eligible winning horses in the world currently to race champions. Bet on a bunch of races or go afk at the bar so the other ranchers get some more wins."
>
> "If you keep winning and winning and winning, nobody else is able to win enough to be a champion racer and thus there can be no championships."

When you dominate regular races, NPC-owned horses can&apos;t accumulate the wins they need to qualify as champions. The Championship system requires a **pool of champions to race against**, and you&apos;ve starved that pool by winning too efficiently.

**Three working fixes:**

### Fix 1 — Saloon TV fast-forward (recommended, fastest)

> "Go to the saloon and fast forward on the races on tv."
>
> "Fastforwarding on the saloon TV is the easiest way to do this."

The saloon has a TV showing live races. Fast-forwarding the TV advances the simulation. NPCs continue racing each other and accumulating wins while you idle. After enough fast-forwards, the champion pool refills.

### Fix 2 — Bet on races, deliberately let NPCs win

> "I fixed it by betting races."
>
> "You need to bet so other horses win so that there are enough 'Champions' to compete against your horses."

Stay at the betting menu, bet on whichever NPC horse has the most prior wins, and don&apos;t enter your own horse. Each race that finishes adds to NPC champion-eligibility. See [/guides/horsey-game-betting-odds-mechanics](/guides/horsey-game-betting-odds-mechanics) for trophy/odds reading.

### Fix 3 — Enter your worst horses (let them lose to NPCs)

> "Or let your worst horses have a go, give little old no legs his chance to shine."

If your bankroll is fine but no one else is winning, enter horses you don&apos;t care about. They lose, NPC horses win, the champion pool starts filling.

## "Silver lasso isn&apos;t catching horses"

**The symptom:** You finally got the silver lasso (Champion Race retirement reward — see [/guides/horsey-game-horse-lifecycle](/guides/horsey-game-horse-lifecycle)). You aim it at a wild horse. The horse makes a kicking sound, neighs, and just keeps walking around. **Nothing got caught.**

**The mechanic** (community fix):

> "I have noticed you have to manually move the horse into your trailer with the silver lasso whereas the regular one auto pulls it to you."
>
> "The silver lasso allows you to grab horses and position them wherever you like by dragging them to a different part of the map. You can even drag unruly ranchers directly into the ocean..."

The **silver lasso is a manual-positioning tool, not an auto-pull**. The regular lasso ($50, single-use) yanks captured horses straight to your trailer. The silver lasso (unlimited use, Champion Race reward) **grabs the horse but doesn&apos;t move it** — you have to manually drag it into your trailer afterward.

**How to actually use it:**

1. Aim the silver lasso at a wild horse.
2. Trigger the lasso. The horse is now caught (kicking + neighing animation just means caught, not refusing).
3. **You — the player — must now drag the captured horse manually** to your trailer position.
4. Once it&apos;s in the trailer, it&apos;s yours.

The silver lasso is also documented to **drag NPC ranchers** to arbitrary map positions, including dropping them into the ocean. Useful for the Opening Speedrun&apos;s drug-and-drag chain at high-tier (see [/guides/opening-speedrun](/guides/opening-speedrun)) — silver lasso replaces the buy-beer-and-stockpile step entirely.

## "I can&apos;t enter my horse in regular races anymore"

**The symptom:** You enter a strong horse for a regular race. The race screen behaves like no horse is entered. You re-enter. Same thing.

**The mechanic** (community-discovered limit):

> "If the regular race acts like you didn&apos;t enter a horse, it&apos;s because the horse or one of the horses you entered has already won 3 races. 3 regular wins seems to be the limit and after that you can only do the championship race. I&apos;m not sure if that&apos;s intended or a bug because you don&apos;t get told that you can&apos;t enter regular races anymore, it just doesn&apos;t work if you try it with a horse that has 3 regular wins."

**3 regular wins per horse is a hard cap.** A horse that has won 3 regular races is locked out of regular races permanently — it can only race in the Championship. The game doesn&apos;t surface this rule; the entry just silently fails.

This explains the [Champion Race two-prior-cups requirement](/guides/horsey-game-betting-odds-mechanics) too: it&apos;s actually 2 priors → eligible → win the 3rd → locked out of regulars → must Championship.

**Practical implication:**

| Horse&apos;s regular-race wins | Eligibility |
|---:|---|
| 0–2 | Regular OK · Championship NO |
| 2 | Regular OK · Championship YES |
| 3 | Regular **NO** · Championship YES (lifetime) |
| 4+ regular | impossible (the cap blocks it) |

**Plan around it.** Once a horse hits 2 regular wins, it&apos;s on a Championship-or-retire trajectory. Don&apos;t waste a 3rd regular entry chasing easy purse — you&apos;ll lock the horse out of the rest of the regular grind for no extra benefit.

## "Wild horses are deformed in late-game"

**The symptom:** By in-game year 500+ you start seeing wild horses with uneven legs, missing parts, or just weird body shapes outside the nuclear plant zone.

**The mechanic** (community observation):

> "Some of them can [race], but a decent number of them always end up with some sort of unholy abomination that managed to not only evolve outside of the nuclear plant, but procreate enough to make entire populations nonviable for racing (i&apos;m looking at YOU, uneven-legged horses)"

**Late-game ecosystem mutation propagates outside the plant zone.** This isn&apos;t the speed-tool plutonium effect ([/guides/horsey-game-crispr-dna-lab](/guides/horsey-game-crispr-dna-lab)) — it&apos;s emergent: mutated escapees breed with wild horses, the offspring carry partial mutations, and after several in-game years entire wild populations are non-race-viable.

**Recovery strategies:**

1. **Buy poor horses from other farms, sell them yours** — community-reported as a way to refresh the wild gene pool: "Try buying them all from the other farmers and selling them some decent horses in exchange, see if that fixes it!"
2. **Bone revival** — see [/guides/horsey-game-conservation-ecosystem](/guides/horsey-game-conservation-ecosystem) Recovery section. Bones from extinct (clean) species can repopulate the map.

## "Horses keep needing to sleep — can I race them more than once a day?"

**The symptom:** You enter a horse in a race, win, and now the horse needs to sleep before it can do anything else. With a stable cap of 10, that's 10 races per in-game day max — and breeding cycles eat the same fatigue budget.

**The mechanic** (community-confirmed):

> "Hot sauce" — feeding a horse hot sauce eliminates its sleep requirement entirely.
>
> "Get them drunk. 3 beers and they fall asleep on the trailer, pull out and back in they wake up. You can run all the races on the same horse 'day' if you fill 'em up with beer."
>
> "I release them and catch them. This also ages them 1 day." — alternative path that costs a year of horse-life

**Three working bypasses:**

### Bypass 1 — Hot sauce (cleanest)

Feed your racing horse hot sauce. The sleep requirement is gone for the rest of the in-game day. Same hot sauce that the [racing optimization guide](/guides/racing-optimization-master-guide) flags as the candidate for sub-5-second times — turns out it has a second functional use.

### Bypass 2 — Beer-sleep + trailer-cycle

1. Give the horse 3 beers → it falls asleep on your trailer
2. Drive the trailer out of the area, then drive back in
3. The horse wakes up rested
4. Race again

This effectively re-uses the in-game "sleep on trailer" animation as a quick-rest checkpoint. **The 3-beer requirement matches the same beer cost** as the [Opening Speedrun](/guides/opening-speedrun) drug-and-drag step — beer is structurally a horse-state-change tool, not just a rancher-incapacitation tool.

### Bypass 3 — Release + recatch (ages 1 day)

Release the horse into the wild, then immediately recatch it with the silver lasso. The horse wakes refreshed, but **ages 1 in-game day** as a side-effect.

This is the highest-cost bypass because of the [8-year retirement wall](/guides/horsey-game-horse-lifecycle). On a horse already at year 6, repeated release-and-recatch will age it out of racing eligibility before the day is done.

## "Championship trophies devolved into sneakers"

**The symptom:** You win a Championship, but the prize is something silly like a pair of sneakers — not the cash + lasso reward you expected.

**The mechanic** (community theory):

> "It MIGHT be the game glitching and running out of 'grand prizes' it can award you, which is probably a bug if that&apos;s the case as after a certain point the game just starts giving you things like sneakers as prizes."

The community treats this as a possible bug rather than a feature. We don&apos;t have a confirmed fix. The current best advice: don&apos;t enter the Championship more than ~5–6 times on a single save. By that point you&apos;ve gotten the unlimited-lasso reward + most achievement progress, so additional wins are diminishing returns anyway.

## What this guide *won&apos;t* claim

- The exact in-game year at which each issue starts. Community reports range from year 500–800.
- Whether the 3-regular-wins cap is intended or a bug. We document the cap as observed.
- Whether the wild-mutation propagation can be fully reversed (bone revival + farm-trade fixes are partial; some saves stay degraded).

If you have a save where you&apos;ve fixed any of these and want to share the workflow, [submit it via /contact](/contact) — we&apos;ll add credit and timestamps.

| Horse named '偷' (Steal) | $25 | 逍遥散人 @ 36:00 |

The lasso is functionally important — bwhatsonn @ 5:19 confirms it's the mechanic for acquiring new wild horses, and 老番茄 @ 3:16 reveals it's **single-use**.

## Verified payouts (honest income)

| Activity | Payout | Source |
|---|---:|---|
| Scooping poop | **$50 per scoop** | Cheru @ 6:23 |
| Same activity (later) | $50 per turd | Cheru @ 27:05 |
| Race entry | **$25** | Cheru @ 4:35 |
| Glue factory rate | **$0.03 per pound** (~$20–$30 per horse) | Cheru @ 5:16 |
| "Easiest race" guaranteed payout | $500 | HeTheLyon @ 1:18 |
| Sweetie sells trophies | $300 | Cheru @ 15:35 |
| Sample horse purchase price (Blessing in Disguise) | $900 | Cheru @ 10:55 |
| Slaughterhouse direct sale | $24 per horse | 逍遥散人 @ 22:02 |
| Bankrupt-state poop job | $50 immediate | 老番茄 @ 6:54 |
| Lady (specific horse) sale offer | $2,000 | 逍遥散人 @ 38:21 |
| Old Bu's quest — champion with rabbit ears | **$2,000** | 老番茄 @ 7:58 and @ 11:21 |

**The poop-scooping payout is the most reliable verified early income.** $50 per scoop, no entry fee, no time gate. If your bankroll stalls, this is the safe move.

## Two NPC quests pay $2,000 — Bubba and Old Bu

There appear to be **two separate $2,000 quest NPCs** in the game, each with different requirements:

### Old Bu — needs a champion with rabbit ears

老番茄 @ 7:58 describes Old Bu as a farmer with useless horses who pays **$2,000** for a horse that has **rabbit ears AND has won a championship** (@ 11:21 corroborates the same NPC giving the $2,000 payout for the rabbit-ear champion).

**The phenotype requirement (rabbit ears) is hard** — you need to splice rabbit DNA into a winning bloodline. The DNA Database has a rabbit preset — see [/tools/dna-database](/tools/dna-database) and the F1 Cross feature.

### Bubba — needs a specific lineage with big ears

Cheru @ 28:00 describes the quest exactly:

> "If you bring me a horse that descends from either Russian mafia, coronal mass ejection, or [a third lineage]. And it must have big ears."

Reward, @ 28:40:

> "I've just made myself $2,000. Easiest $2,000 I've ever made in my life."

Verified: descended from one of those named horse lineages + big ears trait → $2,000.

## The betting ladder

For full odds and payout mechanics including combo bets and VIP mode, see the dedicated [Betting & Odds Mechanics guide](/guides/horsey-game-betting-odds-mechanics).

The minimum bet escalates as you progress:

| Phase | Minimum bet | Source |
|---|---:|---|
| Starting | **$5** | 逍遥散人 @ 0:08 |
| After winning enough | **$25** | Cheru @ 12:48, corroborated by 逍遥散人 @ 25:26 (VIP mode unlock) |
| Elite club ("$100-y dues") | **$100** | Cheru @ 26:50 |

**Bet sizes verified on screen:**

| Bet | Win target / outcome | Source |
|---:|---|---|
| $12,000 | "On the line" | Cheru @ 29:10 |
| $10,000 | aiming at $70,000 (fire-breathing elk) | Cheru @ 35:00 |
| Max single-win observed | **$46,000** | Cheru @ 29:40 |
| Bankroll milestone | $100,000 | Cheru @ 35:30 |

The cleanest path to the $62,375 cure: **a single $10K+ bet on a high-odds long shot**. Cheru reaches $100K shortly after a winning $10K bet on the fire-breathing elk.

## Champion-race entry + payout

老番茄 @ 10:22 reads the Champion Race tab on screen:

> "The champion race is only for horses that have won two championships; entry fee is **$250**, prize is **$2,500**."

That's a clean **10× return** on entry — and corroborates Cheru @ 29:50's read of the same two-prior-wins requirement.

bwhatsonn @ 12:23 further verifies that **a champion horse gets an extra breed** — confirmed on screen when Ted Mosby becomes a champion and gets a breeding bonus.

## Stable cap (verified)

bwhatsonn @ 3:08:

> "It's pretty simple — it's only 10 horses."

**Hard cap of 10 horses**. Plan accordingly: assign roles (breeding stock vs. racing stock) early, retire champions to free slots, glue-factory low-performers without sentimentality.

## What this guide *won't* claim

We deleted the previous version's hypotheses about:

- Carrot-stacking, dance-contest, sumo, fishing, circus payouts
- "Mid-tier sumo prize pool $1,400"
- "Chapter-2 racing license $1,200"
- "Premium feed $150 / +2 stamina recovery"
- "Endurance Sire breeding token $2,400"
- "Saddle market flips: Bronze Endurance $4,000 → $5,400"
- "Stud fees $4–8K per session, 3 sessions per week, $40–50K weekly late-game"
- Stable expansion / paddock layout / Champion League entry fee

None of it appeared on screen in the four cited videos. It may exist, but until we have a clip we won't write it as fact.

## A community exploit we haven't verified

Players on r/HorseyGame describe a high-yield early-game loop: get a farm owner drunk, "kidnap" them into your trailer, then reshuffle owners and their horses to sell everything back and forth — one writeup claims about **$30,000 in a single night**. We haven't reproduced it, so it stays off the verified-income tables above. But it's documented step-by-step and credited to its authors here: [the "kidnap" money loop](/discoveries#kidnapping-money-loop).

# Horsey Game: Old Bu's Rabbit-Ear $2,000 Quest Walkthrough

> Step-by-step Horsey Game walkthrough for Old Bu's $2,000 quest: rabbit-ear champion. Splice plan, time budget, payout math, common pitfalls.

# Old Bu's Rabbit-Ear Quest — $2,000 Champion Walkthrough

> **🔬 Sourcing.** Quest specification verified on screen in 老番茄&apos;s Bilibili playthrough at 7:58 (setup) and 11:21 (payout confirmation). The full source list and outbound link is on [/sources](/sources).

Old Bu is a side-quest NPC most playthroughs walk past without realising he&apos;s a $2,000 cash dispenser. The reason he&apos;s easy to miss: his quest is one of the only ones in the game that requires **a specific phenotype combined with a championship win**. You can&apos;t cheese it with a fast horse alone. This guide is the cleanest path from "starter mare" to "horse with rabbit ears holding a championship trophy" → $2,000 in your wallet.

## The quest specification (verified)

老番茄 @ 7:58 reads Old Bu&apos;s ask:

> "Old Bu&apos;s horses are useless, but he will give 2000 dollars if you can breed a champion horse that has rabbit ears like his."

老番茄 @ 11:21 confirms the payout when conditions are met.

**Both must hold:**

1. **Phenotype:** the horse must have **rabbit ears** (visible morphology, not a hidden stat)
2. **Achievement:** the horse must have **won a championship race** at least once

The Champion Race itself requires two prior cup wins ([老番茄 @ 10:22](/sources)), so the full prerequisite chain is:

```
2 × regular cup wins → eligible for Champion Race → 1 × Champion win → bring to Old Bu
```

Combined with the rabbit-ear phenotype, this is a 2-3 in-game-day quest, not a casual fetch.

## Step-by-step walkthrough

### Step 1 — Acquire a rabbit-DNA donor

The DNA Database&apos;s [rabbit preset](/tools/dna-database) gives you the raw genome reference for a rabbit. To get rabbit ears onto a horse, you need to splice rabbit DNA into a horse line.

Two paths:

**Path A — Catch a wild rabbit** (preferred, no DNA work yet)
- Drive the map perimeter looking for wild rabbits
- Lasso one ([Cheru @ 3:38](/sources) — lasso is $50)
- Bring it home; extract DNA at the in-game DNA Lab (see [/guides/horsey-game-crispr-dna-lab](/guides/horsey-game-crispr-dna-lab) for the full workflow)

**Path B — Use the DNA Database tool to scaffold the genome before in-game**
- Open [/tools/dna-database](/tools/dna-database)
- Load the **horse** preset
- Click "F1 CROSS" → pick `horse` × `rabbit`
- Copy the resulting genome as text
- Save it to your specimen archive — this is your blueprint for what you&apos;re trying to build in-game

Both paths land you at the same spot: a horse-shape genome with rabbit-derived alleles at the helices that govern ear shape.

### Step 2 — Get the DNA Lab unlocked

If you haven&apos;t already, follow the [Opening Speedrun](/guides/opening-speedrun) — specifically Step 5 (power up the abandoned nuclear plant). Without the lab, you can&apos;t splice the rabbit DNA in.

### Step 3 — Splice rabbit alleles into a champion-line horse

You want **two genomes** in the lab:

- Your strongest racing horse&apos;s DNA (extracted)
- A rabbit&apos;s DNA (extracted from the captured wild rabbit)

Use the gene-drive interface to copy the rabbit&apos;s **ear-region helices** into the horse genome. Which helices govern ear shape is unverified — the [DNA Database](/tools/dna-database) F1 cross gives you a reasonable starting splice; iterate from there.

Inject the spliced genome into a fresh foal or a CRISPR&apos;d existing horse. Visual confirmation: the resulting horse should clearly have **rabbit-shaped ears** sticking up.

### Step 4 — Race the rabbit-eared horse to 2 cup wins

Race entry is **$25** per attempt ([Cheru @ 4:35](/sources)). The "easiest race" pays **$500** ([HeTheLyon @ 1:18](/sources)).

Don&apos;t enter the rabbit-eared horse in races where it&apos;s clearly outmatched (see [betting & odds](/guides/horsey-game-betting-odds-mechanics) for trophy-tier reading). Wait for races where this horse can plausibly win.

You need **2 cup wins** before the Champion Race tab unlocks for it.

### Step 5 — Win the Champion Race

The Champion Race costs **$250 entry** and pays **$2,500 prize** ([老番茄 @ 10:22](/sources)). Keep at least $250 buffer in your bankroll before attempting.

If your rabbit-eared horse loses the Champion Race, you can re-enter once it accumulates two more regular cup wins. The achievement does not lock per-attempt.

### Step 6 — Bring the now-champion-with-rabbit-ears to Old Bu

Walk the horse to Old Bu&apos;s farm. Initiate the quest dialogue. Receive **$2,000** ([老番茄 @ 11:21](/sources)).

## Time + payout math

| Phase | Time | Cash flow |
|---|---:|---:|
| Acquire rabbit ($50 lasso + capture trip) | 5 min | −$50 |
| DNA Lab access (assumes Opening Speedrun done) | 0 min | $0 |
| 2 regular race entries + wins | 2 in-game days | +$1,000 net (after $50 entry × 2) |
| Champion Race attempt | 1 in-game day | +$2,250 net ($2,500 − $250 entry) |
| Old Bu payout | &lt;1 min | +$2,000 |
| **Net** | ~3 in-game days | **+$5,200** plus champion-race retirement reward (unlimited-use lasso) |

The retirement reward — an **unlimited-use lasso** ([老番茄 @ 10:53](/sources)) — is arguably more valuable than the cash. Every wild horse you capture afterward costs you nothing in lasso replacements.

## Common pitfalls

- **Skipped the Opening Speedrun.** No DNA Lab = no splice = no rabbit ears = no quest. Do the speedrun first, always.
- **Didn&apos;t pre-cross horse × rabbit in [DNA Database](/tools/dna-database).** Without a blueprint, your in-game splice is guesswork. Spend 2 minutes in the tool first.
- **Tried to splice with only 1 helix changed.** Ear shape likely involves multiple helices — don&apos;t expect 1-helix surgery to produce a visible rabbit-ear phenotype. Use the F1 cross output as a starting point and iterate.
- **Raced the rabbit-eared horse against trophy-tier competition before its first cup.** Trophy horses get 1:2 odds → high win rate against your unproven horse. Filter for races without trophy entrants for the first 2 cup wins.
- **Forgot the 8-year retirement wall.** The whole chain takes 3 in-game days. If your rabbit-eared horse is already 5+ years old when you start splicing, the math gets tight ([see lifecycle guide](/guides/horsey-game-horse-lifecycle)).

## What to do after the quest

Once Old Bu pays out:

1. **Don&apos;t scrap the rabbit-eared horse.** Archive its genome in the [DNA Database Specimen Archive](/tools/dna-database) — rabbit-ear lineage is rare and useful for future Champion Race entries (the horse already has the genome, you just need to keep racing it through more championships).
2. **Capture another wild rabbit** if your unlimited-lasso reward is now active. Free DNA donors for future splices.
3. **Try the [Bubba quest](/guides/bubba-lineage-quest) next** — also $2,000, different requirement (lineage descent + big ears). The two quests don&apos;t compete; you can hold both rewards on the same playthrough.

## What's next

- [Bubba's $2,000 Lineage Quest](/guides/bubba-lineage-quest) — different requirements, same payout
- [Horsey Game Betting & Odds](/guides/horsey-game-betting-odds-mechanics) — Champion Race math
- [Horsey Game Horse Lifecycle](/guides/horsey-game-horse-lifecycle) — the 8-year wall + the Champion retirement lasso

# Horsey Game Opening Speedrun — $50 to a Champion in One Day
Source: https://horseygame.net/guides/opening-speedrun
Category: beginners
Date: 2026-05-09

> 6-step community-validated Horsey Game opening: reset → beer → drug → drag → nuclear plant → DNA Lab. From $50 to a champion in one in-game day.

# Opening Speedrun — $50 to a Champion in One Day

> **🔬 How we sourced this guide.** Every step below is community-validated. The 6-step chain originates from a player comment under 老番茄&apos;s playthrough on Bilibili (7.3M views, 354K likes — the most-watched Horsey Game video in Chinese). The DNA Lab unlock at the nuclear power plant is **directly demonstrated on screen** in the same video at 12:01–12:42. Found a step that doesn't reproduce on a newer patch? [Submit via /contact](/contact).

The official tutorial walks you toward your first race. The community walks you toward an unlocked DNA Lab and a stable of ace horses *on day one*, before you've earned a single dollar. This is that chain.

## The opening is rigged in your favor — if you know the trick

You start with $50 USD and a truck. The medical bill that drives the campaign is $62,375 — a number designed to look hopeless if you grind races honestly. The community route doesn't grind races. It exploits the world's affordances directly.

## Step 1 — Reset the game once for free $50

In the settings menu, **reset the game** before doing anything else. Your starting capital snaps from $50 to $100. Most players never touch the reset because the menu doesn't suggest it does anything.

> Source: player comment under 老番茄 BV1BM9fB8Eds, 2026-05-09. Reproduce by going to settings → Reset on a fresh save. Verification still pending — we have not personally reproduced this on every patch.

## Step 2 — Stockpile 6 beers at the tavern

The tavern upstairs sells beer at $10 each. **Buy 4 bottles** ($40). Then walk past the couple seated nearby and **steal their 2 beers** — the game lets you take them, no karma penalty has been observed. You now have 6 beers. Your remaining cash: $60.

## Step 3 — Drug-and-drag every farm's ace horse

There are 5 farms on the map: 1 on the left side, 3 along the bottom, 1 in the top-right. Each farm has one **ace horse** — its top breeder, the one with the best natural genome. They're not for sale.

For each farm:

1. Approach the farm owner with 3 beers in your inventory.
2. **Force-drink 3 beers** to the owner. They pass out.
3. Drag the unconscious owner home. The farm is now unattended.
4. Walk over to the ace horse and drag it home too.
5. Now turn the original owner-character into a horse (the genome-conversion mechanic from the DNA Lab — Step 5 unlocks it).
6. Drug the converted horse with another beer, drag it back to the original farm, and **sell it back to the farm system**. This refunds you the cost of the operation.

You repeat until you have all the ace horses. **Important caveat**: any horse that was previously a farm-owner — and its first-generation offspring — has a high chance of going on strike during races. They'll flat-out refuse to run. Don't enter them in paid races; they're for breeding stock only.

## Step 4 — Don't waste race entries on striker bloodlines

Filter your stable. Mark every horse from a former-owner conversion as "breeding only". The strike rate persists for one generation past the convert. Anyone in your stable from gen-2 onward of a non-converted ace horse is fine to race.

This is the rule veteran players hand to newcomers most often: *the wrong horse refuses to run, and you only learn that after the entry fee is gone.*

## Step 5 — Power up the abandoned nuclear plant to unlock the DNA Lab

Drive to the **far right edge of the map**, into the desert. There's an abandoned nuclear power plant. The plant has running wheels — the kind a hamster runs on, but horse-sized. Place each ace horse on a wheel one at a time. They generate power. After enough cumulative power, the **DNA Lab unlocks**.

> This sequence is now triple-verified:
> - 老番茄 @ 7:45 — DNA Lab is initially unusable due to no power
> - 老番茄 @ 12:13 — "The abandoned nuclear power plant can be reactivated by placing a horse that can run on a wheel"
> - 老番茄 @ 12:28 — "The gene lab can extract DNA from a horse and perform gene drive to modify other horses"
>
> Watch the 12:13 → 12:42 segment once and you'll recognise the exact UI buttons: "DNA 提取" (DNA Extract) and the gene-drive interface.

## Step 6 — Splice 5 super-tech-horse genomes, race them, win

Inside the DNA Lab:

1. Place each ace horse on the left rack — the lab will read out its DNA and **save it to a hard drive / floppy disk** (老番茄 @ 13:45 confirms: "DNA from a retired horse can be copied and modified to create new versions for racing")
2. Once you have all 5 ace genomes saved as drives, go to the **Horse Simulator 9000** computer in the lab — it (老番茄 @ 15:13) "can simulate DNA combinations and output an optimal result on a floppy disk"
3. Use the gene-drive interface to splice the best alleles from each genome into a single super-genome. The community calls this a "tech horse" (科技马).
4. Inject the super-genome back into your remaining ace horses. You now have **5 super-tech-horses**.
5. Sleep until the next race day.
6. Enter all 5 in races. **At least one will win.** 老番茄 @ 15:50 verifies: "Injecting simulated DNA into a horse can produce a creature that can race and win, regardless of its appearance." This is the campaign's first major prize moment.

### Specific splice tricks the lab supports (verified)

- **Centaur** — Adding human DNA to a horse creates a centaur-like creature (林永季 @ 1:28)
- **Car-leg horse** — A horse with car genes has legs that rotate in place (老番茄 @ 17:05)
- **Duck-horse** — Adding duck genes to a horse can still result in a winning racer (老番茄 @ 17:56)
- **Gene copying** — Successful genes can be copied onto wild horses to create replicas that dominate races (老番茄 @ 18:23)

### Mistakes to avoid in the lab

- **Bad combinations underperform.** 老番茄 @ 17:23: "Computer simulation only produces the best result within the sample; if added genes are incompatible, the result may be poor."
- **Don't max-tweak leg length.** 老番茄 @ 14:10: "Modifying leg length gene drastically can cause a horse to stumble and lose races."

## What this saves you

A naive playthrough spends 3–4 in-game days losing $10 race bets to a random fourth-place finisher (the [Beginner's Walkthrough](/guides/complete-beginners-walkthrough) explains why) before stumbling into the breeding pen. The community route reaches the DNA Lab in roughly **45 real-world minutes** with a near-100% success rate on the first race attempt afterwards.

## Common failure modes

- **Skipped the reset.** You're playing with half the cash. Restart.
- **Used all 6 beers on Step 3 farms 1–2.** Each farm needs 3 beers; 6 beers covers 2 farms cleanly. Buy more before continuing — or chain conversions cleverly.
- **Sold a former-owner horse to a *different* farm.** It loses its strike rate but the original-farm refund is gone. Always sell back to the same farm you took the owner from.
- **Raced the gen-1 offspring of a converted ace.** Strike rate inheritance applies one generation past the convert. Skip gen-1, race gen-2.
- **Tried to splice in the DNA Lab without enough hard drives.** You need at least 3 ace genomes saved before the gene-drive interface gives useful results. The lab won't error — it'll just produce mediocre splices.

## After the speedrun

You're now in the **strategic-breeding game**. Branch into:

# Horsey Game Race-Time Optimization — Verified Records & 5s Soft Cap

> Verified Horsey Game race times: 60s baseline → 5.0s floor. The 5-second soft cap, hot sauce sub-5 question, plutonium hoof speed, RAM upgrade.

# Race-Time Optimization — Verified Records and the 5-Second Soft Cap

> **🔬 Sourcing.** Every claim on this page is anchored to a public YouTube playthrough with a timestamped link. Statements that cannot be traced to a primary video clip have been removed from this guide rather than hedged. The four cited videos are HeTheLyon's "Only Humans" run, MoreCaseOh's "Fastest Horse" run, Cheru's "100% Solved" run, and bwhatsonn's "Best Genes" run — full URLs in **Sources** at the bottom.

The skeleton question of Horsey Game racing is: how fast can a creature actually go? This guide is the answer with receipts.

## The verified race-time progression

HeTheLyon's optimization run starts with an unmodified human and reaches the apparent floor through iterative DNA editing. Each time below is observed on screen and called out by the creator:

| Iteration | Time | Source |
|---:|---:|---|
| Baseline (unmodified human) | ~60s | @ 0:57 |
| Sub-30 target stated | 30s goal | @ 3:10 |
| First optimized time | 27s | @ 3:41 |
| Mid optimization | 22s | @ 8:20 |
| | 20s | @ 8:23 |
| | 19s | @ 8:28 |
| Pogo-leg breakthrough | "actually won" | @ 11:47 |
| | 12s | @ 12:08 |
| | 9s | @ 16:29 |
| | 7.9s | @ 16:40 |
| RAM-upgraded simulator | 6.9s | @ 18:37 |
| | 5.2s | @ 20:19 |
| **Apparent floor** | **5.0s** | @ 20:27 |

This is one of the cleanest optimization curves we have video evidence for in any breeding sim. **A 12× compression** from baseline to floor, with the curve flattening sharply below 8 seconds.

## The 5-second soft cap

HeTheLyon @ 20:30 verbatim:

> "I swear, there's got to be like a soft cap. That lets it to where they can't go below 5."

He has not personally beaten 5.0 seconds at the time of recording, despite stating earlier @ 16:45 that he has "never gotten below five seconds" across his sessions. **Treat 5.0s as the public record floor**, with one important asterisk below.

## The hot-sauce sub-5 speculation

HeTheLyon @ 22:21:

> "The hot sauce might have made them faster. That was faster than 5 seconds."

This is the **only public claim of a sub-5-second time** we've been able to source. He flags it as uncertain in the same sentence — the camera doesn't clearly show the time. We're tracking this as a community open question. If you have a clear screenshot of a sub-5 time, please [submit via /contact](/contact) — it would be the first hard confirmation.

## Genetic interventions that demonstrably worked

These are mechanics HeTheLyon visibly applied during the optimization run:

- **Empty the DNA vat between iterations** (@ 6:08) — "There isn't shitty genes clogging it up." Verified on screen as a step that improved subsequent times.
- **Plutonium feeding** (@ 7:11) — described by the creator as "feed them a little bit of plutonium to speed them up." Visible side-effect: the creature grows hooves on its feet.
- **Pogo front leg** (@ 11:47) — "Don't know why he has a pogo for his fucking front leg. But hey. I think it's working. He actually won." Specific morphology that translates into wins.
- **RAM upgrade for the horse simulator** (@ 19:56) — "With the RAM, we can upgrade our horse simulator. It'll make even faster horses." Game offers a hardware-tier upgrade path that improves optimization output.

## What this batch could *not* verify

Several frequently-claimed mechanics did not appear in the four cited transcripts. We've listed them here so you know what's still open:

- The "5–15% race-outcome delta" rule of thumb
- A pace slider with 50/75/90/100/110% settings
- A Feed Bonus / Warm-Up / Track Affinity buff stack worth +12% Speed
- Rain -3%, Heat +20% Stamina drain, Cold 1.5s start-line delay
- Track-specific stat thresholds (Meadow Sprint Speed ≥85, Mountain Pass Stamina ≥90, etc.)
- "Wet-weather Hoof Structure (H9=C)" or any allele-letter-to-trait mapping

These weren't in the four videos. They may exist; we don't know. Until a save-file extraction lands or a video shows the mechanic on screen, they're not on this page.

## Practical takeaways

1. **Your baseline is ~60 seconds.** A fresh creature is slow. The optimization process compresses 12× to 5.0s.
2. **Empty the vat between optimization iterations.** Cumulative DNA pollution slows you down.
3. **Plutonium and pogo-leg morphology are documented speed paths.** Not pretty, but they win.
4. **RAM upgrade unlocks a faster simulator output.** It's a real progression gate.
5. **Don't trust race-time claims that say "sub-5 seconds" without a screenshot.** The current public floor is 5.0s — sub-5 has been speculated about but never visibly demonstrated on a clean clip.

# Where to Play Horsey Game — Steam, Mac, Mobile & Console FAQ

> **🔬 Sourcing.** Every answer below is cross-verified against at least two independent sources: the official Steam store page, the developer Captain Games' published statements, and third-party trackers (SteamDB, Steambase). Citations inline. Full source list at [/sources](/sources).

The most common questions new players ask about Horsey Game are not about gameplay — they're about whether they can *get* the game at all. Is it on Steam? Mac? Phone? Xbox? This page answers the eight platform questions that show up in Google's "People also searched for" panel, with verified-only facts and direct citations to the developer.

If you have a different question that isn't covered here, ping it at [/contact](/contact) and we'll add it.

## 1. Is Horsey Game on Steam?

**Yes — Horsey Game is sold exclusively on Steam.** App ID 3602570. The store page is the only official distribution channel; there is no DRM-free version, no Itch.io release, no Epic Games Store listing.

- **Release date**: 18 February 2026
- **Price**: $9.99 USD
- **Developer / Publisher**: Captain Games (Justin Smith)

## 2. Does Horsey Game run on Mac?

**Yes.** The Steam store page lists macOS as a supported platform alongside Windows. The native build is what you get — there is no need to wrap the game in CrossOver or Wine.

System requirements as listed on the Steam page:

- **Minimum macOS version**: 15.6 Sequoia
- **CPU**: 64-bit processor
- **RAM**: 1 GB
- **Storage**: ~60 MB

A note on the version requirement: the developer's older FAQ language lists a more permissive **macOS 10.13+**, while the live Steam store page currently shows **15.6 Sequoia**. When the two diverge, **trust the Steam page** — Steam is the package that actually runs on the player's machine and it reflects the most recently shipped binary. The FAQ language was likely written for an earlier build.

## 3. Is there an iPhone or iOS version of Horsey Game?

**No.** The developer's official FAQ is unambiguous:

> "**No, Horsey Game is currently PC-only. There is no mobile version available for iOS or Android.**"
> — Captain Games, official FAQ

The developer cites the game's physics simulation and complex genetic mechanics as the reason — the Horsey Game engine is built for desktop input and storage, not phone. There is no announced plan to port to iOS, and no beta or TestFlight version exists. The Steam store page also lists Windows and macOS as the only supported platforms.

**Source**: [Steam Store Page — Platforms](https://store.steampowered.com/app/3602570/Horsey_Game/)

## 4. Is there an Android version of Horsey Game?

**No.** Same answer as iOS, same source, same reason. The game is PC-only and the developer has not announced an Android build. Treat any third-party APK marketed as "Horsey Game Android" as suspicious — there is no legitimate distribution channel for an Android build because no Android build exists.

**Source**: [Steam Store Page — Platforms](https://store.steampowered.com/app/3602570/Horsey_Game/)

## 5. Is Horsey Game on Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo Switch?

**No.** Horsey Game is not available on any console platform — Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, or Switch 2. Captain Games has not announced any console port, has not appeared on the digital storefronts for these platforms, and the Steam listing lists no third-party publisher relationships.

If you're on console and want to play, the only options are:

1. Get a PC or Mac that meets the minimum spec.
2. Wait for an eventual console port (no timeline, no announcement).
3. Use Steam Link / GeForce Now from a PC you already own — these stream Steam games but are not native console support.

## 6. Does Horsey Game work on Steam Deck?

**Mostly yes, but it's not Steam Deck Verified.** The Windows build runs through Steam's Proton compatibility layer on Steam Deck and SteamOS. Reports from players indicate the game is playable, but the developer has not certified it for the platform, so some functionality may not be fully supported (text legibility at small fonts, input quirks).

If you're a Steam Deck player, expect:

- ✅ Game launches and runs at full speed (lightweight 60 MB game)
- ✅ Mouse-pointer-driven UI works with the trackpad
- 🟡 Some UI elements may be small at 800p Deck native resolution
- 🟡 No native gamepad mapping for the racing controls — keyboard/mouse via Steam Input

The macOS native build does not help here — Steam Deck runs Linux, not macOS.

## 7. Can you play Horsey Game online with other people?

**No real-time multiplayer, but yes to community features.** The Steam page tags the game as **Single-player** only. The official FAQ adds that the game is "primarily a single-player experience" with online community features — specifically:

- **Leaderboards** — global high scores for racing and breeding milestones
- **DNA sharing** — community-curated genetic strains, which is what powers community wikis and DNA-database tools like ours

There is no live PvP, no shared persistent world, no co-op. If you want to share with friends, you share saves, screenshots, or DNA strings — not a real-time game state.

## 8. Is there a wiki for Horsey Game?

**Yes — the player-maintained wiki is the most useful starting point.**

| Wiki | Maintained by | What it's good for |
|---|---|---|
| [horsey-game.fandom.com](https://horsey-game.fandom.com/wiki/Horsey_Game) | Community (Fandom platform) | Broad coverage, contributor-curated, lots of player-found edge cases |

## What about "Horsey game online" or "Horsey game where to play"?

These two queries — both visible in Google's "People also searched for" panel — collapse into the same answer:

**You play Horsey Game by buying it on Steam ($9.99) and running it on Windows 10+ or macOS 15.6+.** There is no in-browser version, no cloud-hosted version, no mobile app, no console release. Everything else marketed as "Horsey Game online" or "Horsey Game free" is either a different (unaffiliated) game with a similar name or an unauthorized copy — neither is the Captain Games title.

The closest thing to an "online" version is **streaming Steam Cloud — install on PC, play from anywhere via Steam Link or GeForce Now**. But you still need the Steam purchase.
